We’re looking for an experienced barista to join our small team at Saudade Bookshop & Café.

This is a hands-on barista role at our take-away focused coffee counter. We’re looking for someone who is confident behind the bar, friendly with customers, reliable, and comfortable working independently as well as alongside our team.

Availability

- Approximately 24–32 hours per week
- Weekend availability is essential

What You’ll Do

- Prepare espresso-based drinks consistently and efficiently
- Dial in espresso and adjust the grinder as needed
- Steam milk and prepare drinks to our standards
- Provide warm and friendly customer service
- Operate the POS and process customer orders
- Maintain a clean and organized coffee bar
- Clean and maintain the espresso machine and other café equipment
- Restock and keep the café ready for service
- Complete opening/closing duties as scheduled




- Occasionally assist with the retail side of the shop when needed

What We’re Looking For

- Previous barista experience
- Strong espresso and milk-steaming skills
- Comfortable dialing in espresso
- Reliable, punctual and able to work independently
- Friendly and confident with customers
- Able to work efficiently during busy periods
- Food Handler Certificate required
- Portuguese knowledge or background is an asset, but not required

Saudade is a neighbourhood bookshop, lifestyle store and café rooted in Portuguese culture and community. We’re looking for someone who appreciates great coffee, hospitality and being part of a small, cooperative team. Pay: $18.00-$19.00 per hour
