Position Summary:

Del-Art recovery home provides a safe, sober, and stable setting for individuals working through their recovery and supportive treatment. A thoughtfully maintained garden and greenhouse play a huge part in creating a peaceful, grounding atmosphere for the residents there. We are looking for a passionate and dedicated volunteer who would like to take ownership of their gardening spaces and help them thrive, so they can be enjoyed by everyone at the manor.

As a volunteer, a vital part of this role will be sharing your gardening knowledge with the clients. Passing on these skills ensures the garden remains sustainable and can continue to flourish. Ultimately, our vision is to expand this beautiful space into a true "seed to plate" program, empowering the community to grow and harvest much of our own food.

Location: Del-Art Recovery home, Keewatin, ON

Key Responsibilities:

- Greenhouse Management: Oversee the daily or weekly needs of the greenhouse, including watering, pruning, pest management, and temperature monitoring.
- Planting & Harvesting: Plan and execute seasonal planting for both ornamental flowers and any vegetable or herb yields.
- Sharing the Passion: While this is primarily an independent role, there may be organic opportunities to share your gardening knowledge with residents who show an interest in helping or learning.

Qualifications:

- Age requirements: 18 and above
- A Deep Love for Gardening: You genuinely enjoy getting your hands in the dirt and know exactly what it takes to keep a greenhouse happy.
- Reliability:



Plants need consistent care, so we are looking for someone who can stick to a regular (even if flexible) schedule.
- Respect & Compassion: You understand the importance of boundaries and confidentiality, keeping in mind that Del-Art is a safe space for individuals in recovery.
- Self-Starter: You are comfortable working independently and can assess what the garden needs without requiring constant direction.

Training & Onboarding:

- Orientation to Del-Art and Lake of the woods District Hospital.
- Brief training on trauma-informed engagement, addiction sensitivity, and boundary-setting
- Shadowing a staff member during your first couple sessions.
