Position Summary The Health Promoter is a health professional specializing in maintaining and improving the health of populations and reducing the health inequities among populations through the action areas described in the Ottawa Charter (building healthy public policy, creating supportive environments, strengthening community action, developing personal skills and reorienting health services).

The Health Promoter is an essential member of the client-centered GRCHC team who uses collaborative and creative approaches within the broad determinants of health framework.

Promoter’s approach will be evidence based, innovative, and rooted in an anti-oppressive practice. A systems perspective, attention to continuous quality improvement, exceptional communication and organizational skills are essential to the success of this position.

Promoter will support community development and strengthen community action by building meaningful partnerships with external community agencies.

The Health

Promoter will also support the overall GRCHC team by collaborating with staff and different departments to serve as the central connector that integrates programs and unifies the centre’s community presence.

Hours of work: Primarily days, with one evening per week and weekend work as required to support community programming and initiatives.

Requirements

· Undergraduate degree in a health or social science discipline; Master’s degree preferred

· 3-5 years experience in a health or social service setting

· Experience in health promotion and community development, with knowledge of and experience working with diverse populations, including vulnerable and underserved populations,



and an understanding of the health and social inequities affecting communities in Brantford and Brant Count

· Demonstrated ability to successfully obtain grant funding

· Demonstrated experience working with individuals and communities from diverse backgrounds, including vulnerable and underserved populations with a commitment to equity, inclusion accessibility, cultural safety and anti-oppressive practice

· Demonstrated ability and willingness to work collaboratively with clients and communities from diverse backgrounds and with varying needs, circumstances, and abilities

· Experience in harm reduction, chronic disease management, and injury prevention an asset.

· Demonstrated experience and knowledge of health promotion principles of practice including, but not limited to, evidence-based practice, equity, interdisciplinary collaboration, population health approach, establishing and maintaining effective partnerships

· Knowledge of and experience with group facilitation and co-facilitation

· Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver health promotion education, presentations, workshops, and group programming

· Demonstrated experience in project management including planning, developing collaborations, collecting and analyzing data, implementation, and evaluation

· Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational, and decision-making skills required

· Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability,



with the ability to respond to changing community needs and organizational priorities

· Understanding of health promotion principles as they relate to collaboration with a wide variety external community agencies and internal GRCHC departments

· Demonstrated ability and willingness to work in a variety of settings, including community-based locations and off-site events

· Ability and willingness to travel between GRCHC sites and community locations as required

We offer a competitive salary of $34.51 to 41.22 per hour and benefits (including HOOPP) and a supportive network of service providers.

Employment is conditional upon providing a police vulnerable sector check and vaccinations as per GRCHC policies.
