The Opportunity

We have a full-time position as a Homeless Outreach Mentor to work within CMHA’s Oscar’s Place in The Pas. The Homeless Outreach Mentor provides compassionate, client-centered support to individuals experiencing homelessness or housing instability.

The Position The position focuses on building trusting relationships with clients, supporting their immediate needs, and helping them connect with housing, health, addictions, income assistance, employment, and other community resources. Working as part of the Oscar’s Place team, the Homeless Outreach Mentor provides support both within the shelter and in the community. The position promotes dignity, respect, safety, harm reduction, and positive engagement while encouraging clients to work toward greater stability and independence.

The Salary range is $22.51 - $28.34 an hour depending on qualifications and is based on 35 hours of work per week.

The Qualifications

Education and Experience

- Post-secondary education in Social Work, Human Services, Community Development, Addictions, Mental Health, Indigenous Studies, or a related field is an asset.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty, addictions, mental health challenges, or other barriers to housing is an asset.
- Experience in a shelter, outreach, community service, or supportive-housing environment is preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.

- Ability to advocate for clients while respecting their choices and autonomy.
- Strong organizational, documentation, and time-management skills.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries while developing supportive relationships.
- Knowledge of local community resources is an asset.
- Knowledge of harm-reduction and trauma-informed approaches is an asset.
- Cultural awareness and experience working respectfully with Indigenous communities is an asset.

Required Certifications The successful candidate may be required to obtain or maintain:

- Standard First Aid and CPR
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or equivalent crisis-intervention training
- Naloxone training
- WHMIS
- Other training required by CMHA and Oscar’s Place

A valid Manitoba Class 5 driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle may be considered an asset depending on outreach requirements.
