Job Overview The Toucan is looking for a friendly, reliable Host to join our team!

We’re looking for someone with positive year-round availability who can work Friday daytime shifts, weekends, holidays, and our busiest events. This includes being available throughout the summer, as well as the Christmas holidays, New Year’s Eve, St. Patrick’s Day, long weekends, and other busy event days.

This is a permanent position, not a seasonal job, with the opportunity to grow within the company for someone who is reliable, hardworking, and wants to become a long-term part of our team.

We’re looking for someone who is personable, organized, comfortable in a busy pub environment, and enjoys being the first friendly face our guests see when they walk through the door. You will be the first point of contact for guests entering the pub and will be responsible for managing the door, checking identification, monitoring the environment, and addressing issues before they become problems.

Responsibilities

- Check government-issued identification and verify guests meet the legal age requirement
- Manage the seating of guests, walk-ins and reservations
- Monitor and manage the flow of guests entering the building
- Help maintain a safe, respectful, and welcoming atmosphere for guests and staff
- Help maintain menus, condiments, and other front-of-house supplies
- Politely address disruptive, intoxicated, or inappropriate behaviour
- Refuse entry or ask guests to leave when necessary, following management direction and established policies
- Communicate with bartenders,



servers, managers, and other staff regarding guest concerns or incidents
- Assist with managing lineups and busy periods at the door
- Assist with opening and closing duties as required
- Monitor capacity and communicate with management when the room is approaching capacity
- Respond calmly and professionally to difficult situations
- Complete incident notes or reports when required
- Assist guests who may need help finding transportation or safely leaving the premises
- Maintain a professional presence throughout the shift

What We're Looking For

- 19+ and mature, responsible, and dependable
- Must be available to work the Friday daytime shift
- Comfortable working late nights in a busy downtown bar environment
- Confident speaking with and directing large groups of people
- Able to remain calm and professional when dealing with difficult situations
- Observant and able to recognize when a situation may be escalating
- Friendly and approachable while still being comfortable enforcing rules
- Reliable and punctual, particularly for weekend closing shifts
- Comfortable standing and being active for the majority of the shift
- A strong communicator who works well with the rest of the team
