Richelieu Hardware is seeking an Human Resources Business Partner for our Head Office, located in Ville St-Laurent.
Opportunity
Put your HR expertise to work in a role where your recommendations will have a direct impact on management decisions, employee experience, and team performance. You will join a growing North American company operating in a creative and dynamic industry, and become part of a team where ideas, collaboration, and continuous improvement are highly valued.
As a Bilingual Human Resources Business Partner, you will primarily support managers and employees located across Western Canada. Based at our Saint-Laurent headquarters, you will build trusted relationships both remotely and in person, gain a deep understanding of business challenges, and provide practical, consistent HR solutions tailored to the operational environment.
Your Mandate
You will serve as an HR generalist and strategic partner to business leaders. You will assess situations requiring HR intervention, evaluate risks, recommend appropriate courses of action, and support managers throughout implementation. You will also contribute to the development and deployment of HR projects, processes, and practices aligned with Richelieu’s culture and priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise and support managers on employee relations matters, including performance management, attendance management, administrative and disciplinary measures, workplace conflicts, complaints, investigations, and terminations.
- Develop a strong understanding of operations, teams, and business priorities to provide proactive guidance rather than purely reactive support.
- Deliver clear, practical recommendations aligned with internal practices, applicable policies, and relevant employment legislation.
- Build credibility and strong partnerships with leaders across Western Canada through regular touchpoints, periodic site visits, and consistent follow-up on commitments.
- Support managers in talent planning, retention, succession planning, employee development, engagement, and organizational change initiatives.
- Contribute to the review of organizational structures, roles, compensation, advantages, and working conditions in collaboration with relevant Centers of Expertise.
- Analyze data and generate reports from the HRIS, particularly ADP Workforce Now, to support decision-making and improve process and data quality.
- Participate in cross-functional and interdepartmental HR projects and support their implementation with managers and employees.
- Identify trends, recurring issues, and emerging risks; propose sustainable solutions and measure the effectiveness of interventions.
- Manage multiple priorities from different business leaders, communicate expectations, and maintain complete, confidential, and well-organized documentation.
What Your Day Might Look Like
- An Operations Director wants to act quickly on a performance issue. You clarify the facts,
assess the risks, establish a fair approach, and guide the manager through the next steps.
- A manager informs you that a key employee may be considering leaving the organization. You analyze retention factors, internal equity considerations, and succession needs before recommending a sustainable solution.
- Two leaders are experiencing a conflict that is affecting their teams. You facilitate dialogue, refocus discussions on business impacts, and secure concrete commitments from both parties.
- You notice that one division tends to involve HR late in the decision-making process. You implement a partnership plan, establish regular touchpoints, and deepen your understanding of operational realities.
- A project requires the extraction and analysis of reports in ADP Workforce Now to support improvements to the HRIS or an HR process.
Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
- Approximately three to five years of relevant experience as an HR Generalist or HR Business Partner, ideally in a multi-site operational environment.
- Strong experience in employee relations, performance management, and coaching managers through sensitive situations.
- Sound knowledge of core HR functions, including talent management, compensation, benefits, organizational development, and HR policies.
- Ability to understand both strategic and operational challenges, assess risks, and translate analysis into practical recommendations.
- Professional bilingualism in French and English, both spoken and written, including the ability to provide guidance and draft communications in both languages.
- Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and experience using an HRIS; knowledge of ADP Workforce Now is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of employment laws and practices applicable in Quebec and Western Canadian provinces, or the demonstrated ability to research and apply them effectively.
- Eligibility to work in Canada and the ability to work from the Saint-Laurent head office at least four days per week.
- Flexibility to occasionally adjust work hours to accommodate Western Canadian time zones and travel periodically between Manitoba and British Columbia.
- The CRHA or CRIA designation is considered an asset.
The Profile That Will Thrive in This Role
- Credibility, strong listening skills, and the ability to build relationships with operational leaders, including in remote environments.
- Sound judgment, skilled courage, and tact to challenge decisions, manage risk,
and propose alternative solutions.
- Strong analytical and business acumen with the ability to connect HR solutions to organizational outcomes.
- Excellent organization, autonomy, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize multiple urgent matters.
- Collaborative mindset, customer-focused approach, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Absolute discretion and respect for confidentiality.
Success Indicators
- Managers engage the HR Business Partner early in their decision-making process and confidently implement recommendations.
- Sensitive employee matters are managed consistently, thoroughly documented, addressed promptly, and proportionately to risk.
- Talent and performance priorities are translated into concrete action plans.
- Leaders and employees in Western Canada experience regular, accessible, and proactive HR support despite geographic distance.
HR projects and process improvements are successfully implemented with lasting adoption and impact.
