Experienced Hydrovac Operator Wanted

Location: Nisku, AB

Wage: $34.00–$42.00 per hour, based on experience and capability

Schedule: Monday–Friday, with overtime and occasional weekends as required

Utilidril is looking for an experienced Hydrovac Operator to join our team in Nisku, Alberta.

This is a hands-on field position for someone who is comfortable operating hydrovac equipment around underground utilities and active construction sites. We are looking for an operator who understands safe excavation practices, takes care of their equipment, and can work effectively with customers, supervisors and other crew members in the field.

Our hydrovac crews work on utility, pipeline, industrial and civil construction projects throughout Alberta and British Columbia.

Out-of-town work is a regular requirement of this position.

What You'll Do

- Safely operate hydrovac trucks and associated equipment
- Perform daylighting and exposure of underground utilities
- Complete hydro excavation around pipelines, electrical, telecommunications, water, sewer and other underground infrastructure
- Operate the boom, vacuum system, high-pressure water system and related hydrovac equipment
- Excavate safely around known and suspected underground utilities
- Follow ground disturbance procedures and locate requirements
- Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspections
- Complete daily equipment inspections and required documentation
- Maintain appropriate water levels and manage debris tank capacity throughout the workday
- Travel to disposal facilities and safely unload hydrovac material
- Set up hoses, equipment and work areas safely
- Maintain safe distances from equipment, excavations, overhead hazards and underground utilities
- Assist with traffic control and site setup when required
- Keep the hydrovac truck, tools and equipment clean and properly maintained
- Identify equipment problems and report maintenance requirements
- Complete paperwork, field tickets and customer documentation accurately
- Communicate professionally with customers,



supervisors and other contractors on site
- Assist with general labour and site activities when required
- Work with the crew to complete projects safely and efficiently

What We're Looking ForRequired
- Previous hydrovac, vacuum truck or similar heavy equipment operating experience
- Valid Class 3 driver's licence with air brake endorsement
- Clean and acceptable driver's abstract
- Energy Safety Canada H2S Alive
- Intermediate First Aid with CPR
- Energy Safety Canada Fall Protection
- Ground Disturbance 201
- Experience working around underground utilities
- Understanding of safe excavation and ground disturbance practices
- Ability to complete vehicle and equipment inspections
- Ability to safely operate heavy equipment in active construction environments
- Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check
- Willingness to travel and work out of town
- Willingness to work overtime and occasional weekends
- Dependable, safety-conscious and reliable work habits
- Ability to work independently when required while still working effectively as part of a crew

Assets
- Energy Safety Canada Confined Space Entry/Monitor
- Previous hydrovac experience in pipeline, utility or industrial environments
- Experience daylighting and exposing live underground utilities
- Experience working in Alberta and British Columbia
- Experience working on pipeline or energy-sector projects
- Additional Class 1 or commercial driving experience
- Additional construction or heavy equipment operating experience
