About The Schulich Dentistry Hygiene Service provides high-quality preventive and therapeutic oral health care to patients in a clinical setting. Through a patient-centred approach, the service promotes oral health, disease prevention, and overall well-being by delivering comprehensive dental hygiene care, oral health education, and evidence-informed treatment to diverse patient populations.

Role Summary The Dental Hygienist supports the delivery of comprehensive patient care within the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry Hygiene Program. Working within a dynamic clinical environment with varying weekly schedules, the incumbent provides preventive and therapeutic dental hygiene services, promotes oral health through patient education, and contributes to the prevention of oral diseases and disorders. The role involves collaborating with dentists and other oral health professionals to ensure high standards of patient care, maintaining accurate clinical records, performing radiographic procedures as required, and upholding infection prevention and control protocols through the proper cleaning, maintenance, and sterilization of instruments and equipment.

Responsibilities

- Provide dental hygiene assessments, preventive services, and therapeutic treatments to patients in the dental clinics
- Educate patients on oral health practices and the prevention of dental diseases and disorders
- Take and process dental radiographs as prescribed or deemed necessary by the supervising Dentist
- Accurately document patient care and maintain complete and up-to-date patient charts and clinical records
- Monitor patient health status and communicate relevant findings to the Dentist and clinical team
- Adhere to all clinical, infection prevention and control,



and patient safety protocols
- Maintain, clean, disinfect, and sterilize dental instruments and equipment in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards
- Ensure treatment areas are prepared and stocked to support productive clinic operations
- Support a positive patient experience through professional, respectful, and patient-centered care
- Collaborate effectively with faculty, students, and other clinic personnel to support educational and clinical objectives
- Maintain compliance with applicable regulatory, health and safety, and professional practice requirements
- Contribute to the efficient operation of the clinic through organization, communication, and administrative support activities as required

Qualifications

Education: Ontario Certified Dental Hygienist

Experience: 2 years experience as a practicing Dental Hygienist

Skills, Abilities & Expertise:

- HARP (Health and Radiation Protection) Certification, WHMIS, CPR, and First Aid Training
- Verbal communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
- Ability to work in a manner that models best practices in confidentiality standards
- Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation




- Ability and willingness to employ a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and making decisions
- Ability to employ a systematic and efficient approach to work
- Computer skills with the ability to learn and use software programs

This is a 12 month temporary part time appointment, with variable weekly hours between 0-24. The expected hourly rate for this position is $40-$50 per hour. There are multiple vacancies available.
