About the role

Reporting to the CAO, the Interim Director of Finance/Treasurer leads all municipal financial functions, including budgeting, financial planning, accounting, reporting, taxation, treasury, and asset management. As the municipality's statutory financial officer, the role provides strategic financial advice to Council, the CAO, and the Senior Leadership Team while ensuring fiscal accountability, legislative compliance, and long-term sustainability. This is an existing position with a vacancy and is being filled on an interim basis for approximately 3 to 6 months.

Key Accountabilities

- Provide strategic leadership for all municipal finance functions while advising Council, the CAO, and Senior Leadership on financial planning, policy development, and organizational priorities.
- Lead the municipality’s budgeting, financial planning, reporting, investments, reserves,



and revenue management activities to ensure long-term fiscal sustainability and informed decision-making.
- Ensure strong financial controls, regulatory compliance, and effective oversight of core finance operations, including taxation, payroll, accounting, audits, and the Treasurer’s statutory responsibilities.
- Lead procurement, contract, asset management, and development charge functions while fostering effective relationships with Council, staff, partners, government agencies, and community stakeholders.

Qualifications

- University degree in Accounting or Business Administration and a qualified accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA, or CPA).
- Minimum 7 years of senior municipal or public-sector finance experience, including budgeting, fiscal planning, policy development, and staff leadership, along with at least 5 years in a senior management role.
- Strong expertise in municipal finance, Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) accounting standards, auditing, taxation, asset management, investment and debt management, grants, and financial planning.
