The Janitor/Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, protected, welcoming, and culturally respectful environment for staff, participants, Elders, youth, families, and visitors at Bent Arrow Traditional Healing Society facilities. This position supports the organization's mission by ensuring all program spaces, offices, meeting rooms, washrooms, kitchens, and common areas are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness, safety, and functionality.

Key Responsibilities

Facility Cleaning and Maintenance

- Clean and sanitize offices, program rooms, meeting spaces, washrooms, kitchens, hallways, entrance and common areas
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and wash floors, windows, and surfaces
- Empty garbage and recycling containers and ensure proper disposal of waste
- Clean and restock washroom supplies, including soap, paper towels, and toilet paper
- Maintain kitchen cleanliness and sanitation standards
- Ensure entrances and exits are free of debris and hazards
- Able to maintain two office locations within Edmonton

Inventory and Supplies

- Monitor cleaning supply inventories and notify supervisors when replenishment is required
- Use cleaning products and equipment safely and according to manufacturer instructions
- Maintain an organized janitorial storage area

Health, Safety, and Security

- Follow workplace health and safety policies and procedures
- Ensure safety hazards are promptly identified and addressed
- Secure facilities as required, including locking doors and reporting security concerns
- Follow infection prevention and control practices

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous janitorial, custodial,



or facility maintenance experience preferred
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, products, and equipment
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Good communication and organizational skills
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks
- Reliable, punctual, and dependable

Assets

- WHMIS certification
- First Aid/CPR certification
- Knowledge of occupational health and safety practices

Working Conditions

- Frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals and cleaning equipment
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support programs and events

Salary & Benefits

- $44,650.00 - $46,882.50 annually
- Paid sick and wellness days after 3 months’ probationary period
- Extended Health Benefits (50/50 cost sharing) after 6 months’ employment
- Working approximately 34.5 hours per week
