FortisAlberta is looking for a safety-focused and highly skilled Journeyman Power Line Technician to help build, maintain, and restore the electrical distribution system that powers communities across Alberta.

In this hands-on role, you will perform a variety of distribution operations, construction, maintenance, and restoration activities while working closely with customers and team members to ensure safe, reliable service.

:

- Construct, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot overhead and underground electrical distribution systems.
- Perform live line work and support the safe operation of the electrical distribution network.
- Develop switching plans and perform system, radial, and substation switching activities.
- Complete hazard assessments, maintain safe worksites, and support incident investigations.
- Perform distribution operations, maintenance, patrols, repairs, and outage restoration activities.
- Coordinate construction readiness activities, including planned outages, contractor coordination, and project preparation requirements.
- Respond to customer trouble calls and power interruptions with skilled and timely service.
- Participate in standby rotations and emergency response activities as required.




- Support specialized operational functions such as cable fault locating, testing, system switching, and advanced construction activities.
- Mentor apprentices and contribute to the development and success of the team.

Qualifications:

- Valid Alberta Class 3 driver's licence with air brake endorsement.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and safe work practices.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced field environment.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
- Additional trade certifications, certificates, diplomas, or degrees in a related discipline are considered an asset.

Important:

- Permanent, full-time role.
- Monday - Friday schedule, with participation in after-hours and weekend standby rotations.
- Based out of our Redcliff service location.
- Successful candidate must reside within 50 kilometers of the assigned service point office, or within a 40-minute response time.
- This is a unionized role and the successful applicant will be required to become a union member on hire if they are not one already.
- Occasional overnight travel may be required.
- Current driver's abstract and criminal background check required.
- Safety-sensitive position requiring pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
