We are seeking a motivated, client-focused Junior Associate Lawyer in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario (LSO) to join our growing firm. This role primarily focuses on managing day-to-day residential real estate transactions from start to finish, while also handling, wills, powers of attorney, probate applications, and supporting other matters.
This is an excellent prospect for a junior practitioner or recent bar admittee seeking hands-on file carriage, direct client interaction, and practical mentorship across diverse solicitor practice areas.
Key Responsibilities
Real Estate:
- Manage residential purchase, sale, refinance, and private mortgage files from intake to closing.
- Review Agreements of Purchase and Sale, status certificates, and title search results; draft requisition letters and respond to requisitions.
- Prepare closing documentation, statement of adjustments, and mortgage packages.
- Coordinate closings using Teraview, Conveyancer / Unity, and legal accounting/practice management software.
- Meet with clients (in-person and virtually) to review and execute closing documents.
Wills, Estates & Probate:
- Draft Wills, Continuing Powers of Attorney for Property, and Powers of Attorney for Personal Care tailored to client instructions.
- Prepare and file Applications for Certificate of Appointment of Estate Trustee (with or without a Will) in Ontario Superior Court.
- Assist estate trustees with estate administration, asset distribution, and beneficiary communications.
General Practice & Firm Support:
- Draft and review general contracts, corporate filings, or domestic/separation agreements as required.
- Conduct legal research and draft correspondence with opposing counsel, lenders, brokers, and court registries.
- Maintain organized physical and digital file management in full compliance with LSO standards.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Licensing: Member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario (LSO) (or eligible for imminent call).
- Experience: 2–3 years of experience in real estate and estate planning (relevant articling or legal clinic experience qualifies).
- Software Proficiency: Familiarity with Teraview, Unity / Conveyancer, PC Law / Clio (or comparable platforms).
- Skills:
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to track tight deadlines.
- Solid drafting and negotiation skills.
- Professional, compassionate client-facing communication.
- Ability to work independently while knowing when to seek senior direction.
