Location

This full-time position is based at North Star Structure Systems located at 120 Cocagne Cross Road, Cocagne, New Brunswick.

Position Overview The Junior Designer supports the design and engineering of structural building components, including roof trusses, wall panels, and floor systems. Working under the supervision of senior designers and engineering staff, this role prepares technical layouts, production drawings, and material lists to ensure accurate and efficient manufacturing.

The Junior

Designer collaborates closely with production, sales, and purchasing teams to ensure designs meet project specifications, building codes, and manufacturing requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Drafting:

- Assist in the design and layout of roof trusses, wall panels, and floor systems using specialized design software.
- Prepare detailed shop drawings and layouts for manufacturing and construction.
- Review project plans, blueprints, and specifications to determine structural component requirements.
- Modify and update designs based on engineering review or customer requirements.

Production Support:

- Generate accurate material lists and component specifications for production.
- Coordinate with the production team to ensure designs are practical for manufacturing.
- Assist in resolving design or production issues related to structural components.

Technical Review & Compliance:

- Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, engineering standards, and project specifications.
- Work with senior designers or engineers to verify structural calculations when required.
- Maintain accurate design documentation and revision records.

Coordination & Communication:

- Communicate with sales, project coordinators, and customers regarding design clarifications.
- Support estimating and quoting processes when required.




- Participate in project meetings or production planning discussions as needed.

Skills and Qualifications · Diploma or education in Architectural Technology, Engineering Technology, Drafting, or a related field.

· Basic knowledge of construction methods and structural building components.

· Familiarity with design software (Simpson, MiTek, Alpine, AutoCAD, or similar) is an asset.

· Solid attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

· Strong organizational and communication skills.

· Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset.

Working relationships

· Reports directly to the Senior Design Manager

· Works closely with Sales, Production, Purchasing, and Engineering teams.

Working Conditions

- Office-based role within a manufacturing environment.
- Occasional interaction with the production floor to review designs and manufacturing processes.
