POSITION SUMMARY The Fort Erie Native Cultural Centre is seeking a compassionate, culturally supportive and community-minded Katkwenyes Instructor to support Indigenous adult learners in achieving their educational and personal goals. The Instructor provides literacy, numeracy, tutoring and individualized learning support in both one-to-one and classroom settings.
The Instructor will support learners along one of five goal paths: Independence, Employment, Secondary, Post-Secondary or Apprenticeship. This role focuses on creating a secure, welcoming and positive learning environment, identifying learner needs and barriers, developing action plans, and connecting learners with appropriate programs, resources and community supports.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide literacy, numeracy, tutoring and learning support to Indigenous adult learners. Assess learner needs and develop individualized learning plans and action plans. Create and adapt learning resources to support learner goals. Provide guidance, encouragement and appropriate referrals to community, educational and employment services.
Support learners in transitioning between programs and goal paths. Build positive, respectful and supportive relationships with Indigenous community members. Incorporate Traditional Cultural Knowledge and culturally relevant approaches into learning opportunities where appropriate.
Communicate with learners, FENCC staff, community partners and other organizations as required.
Assist the Coordinator with program delivery and learner supports. Maintain calendars, timesheets, mileage forms and required program documentation. Complete clerical and administrative duties, including email communication.
Participate in reception duties and assist with kitchen duties, community activities and special events as required.
Work collaboratively with FENCC staff and contribute to a positive team environment. Follow FENCC policies, procedures and applicable legislation. Perform other duties related to the position as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
College/University Diploma in Adult Education, Adult Learning, Educational Support, Literacy Basic Skills, Career Development, or Relevant education to the position.
Experience working with Indigenous community members and/or adult learners is an asset.
Understanding of the needs, barriers and goals of Indigenous adult learners.
Knowledge of local Indigenous, community, educational and support services.
Familiarity with Traditional Cultural Knowledge and Indigenous approaches to learning.
Strong communication, interpersonal, organization and time-management skills.
Ability to engage learners, provide individualized support, develop action plans, create lesson plans and connect learners with appropriate resources.
Demonstrated care, compassion,
patience and respect when working with community members.
Ability to work independently, follow direction and contribute positively as part of a team.
Strong computer and administrative skills.
Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s Licence, clean driver’s abstract and access to a dependable vehicle.
Must have or be willing to obtain a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check/CPIC.
