A well-regarded commercial litigation boutique in Vancouver is seeking an experienced LAA to join its growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a litigation qualified who knows how a file moves from pleadings to trial, stays ahead of deadlines without being prompted, and enjoys being part of a close-knit team. The successful candidate will support a partner and two associates, and work closely with the wider support team during busy periods.
Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support to three commercial litigation lawyers, balancing competing priorities and deadlines across their files
- Support litigation files through every stage, applying working knowledge of the BC Supreme Court Civil Rules
- Prepare, file and serve court documents, including electronic filing through Court Services Online (CSO), and coordinate service, mail and couriers
- Book chambers applications, including long chambers, registrar's hearings and related appearances
- Prepare books of authorities, application records, and trial and appeal materials
- Conduct corporate registry and land title searches
- Review incoming pleadings, work out the deadlines they trigger, and diarize them proactively
- Keep an accurate bring-forward system and calendar of limitation dates, court dates and key deadlines
- Open, organize, maintain and close electronic files
- Manage the billing cycle, including reviewing WIP, preparing pre-bills and draft accounts, and finalizing invoices
- Liaise with outside vendors to arrange out-of-town hearings and trials, staff events, and client and colleague gifts
- Help other lawyers and support staff meet deadlines as a team when needed
- Share general office duties with the rest of the admin team
Qualifications
- Minimum 2+ years of civil litigation experience; corporate/commercial litigation experience is strongly preferred
- Solid understanding of the BC Supreme Court Civil Rules, litigation deadlines and bring-forward systems
- Hands-on experience with CSO filings, books of authorities, and corporate and land title searches
- Familiarity with the legal billing process; experience with cloud-based practice management and e-discovery platforms is an asset
