Our Employment/Human Rights Department is looking to hire a full-time legal assistant, who is able to work in a fast-paced, extremely busy environment.

Qualifications:

· Minimum 1+ years of legal experience and/or broadly relevant education needed;

· Any of the following would be considered significant assets:

o Experience in areas of civil litigation and/or tribunal work;

o Knowledge of labour, employment, and/or human rights law;

o Experience drafting and filing various court and tribunal forms and documents;

o Familiarity with civil process in Superior Court, applicable federal and provincial tribunals;

o Experience dealing with both employees and employers and/or clients would be an asset; and/or o Quick learning or proficiency on laptops with Microsoft, legal software and key websites.

Skills:

· Ability to streamline processes, assist in organizing files, assist in managing priorities to ensure all deadlines are met.

· Ability to multi-task and complete work with great accuracy

· Work independently, follow instructions with minimal supervision, take initiative, and be efficient with time management

· Strong judgement, and strong communication skills, both written and verbal

· Ability to do intake calls; flag items for follow up, take initiative, compose emails and answer messages (both email and via phone), getting sign-off from lawyer where prudent.

· Ability to finalize draft correspondence and legal documents





· Ability to schedule meetings and communicate effectively with clients, lawyers, and courts
