My Sewing Room is looking for a Marketing & Education Coordinator / Sales Associate to join our team.

We're Canada's largest independent sewing and quilting shop, but we're much more than a retail store. We create classes, events, content and experiences that bring our customers together around sewing, quilting and embroidery.

We're looking for someone who can help us make those things happen—and tell the story along the way.

THIS IS NOT A DESK JOB.

Your days will be varied.

You might photograph a customer's new machine, create content for an upcoming class, help an instructor prepare for an event, film a quick product video, answer an Instagram question and then jump onto the sales floor to help customers.

You'll work closely with the owner, management team and classroom/education manager to turn ideas into content, promotions, events and great customer experiences.

You don't need to know how to sew. You do need to be curious, creative and ready to learn.

WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY DO

Social Media & Content

- Plan, create and schedule content for Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and other platforms
- Turn products, classes, events and customer projects into engaging content
- Take photographs and video in-store and at events
- Stage products and create visually appealing content
- Write captions and promotional copy
- Monitor social media and respond to customer questions and comments
- Tag and link products featured in videos, demonstrations, classes and posts
- Capture customer projects and machine purchases—with their permission
- Look for the stories and opportunities happening in our store every day

Classes, Events & Education You'll work alongside our classroom/education manager to help make classes and events successful before, during and after they happen.

This may include

- Preparing promotional material for upcoming classes and events
- Creating "Featured Products" lists with links customers can easily shop
- Helping instructors prepare for classes
- Photographing and documenting classes and events
- Creating post-event content featuring student and customer projects
- Supporting event setup and takedown
- Helping analyze what worked and what we can improve
- Turning great classroom moments into content that makes people want to join us next time

Customer & Sales Support You'll also spend time on the retail floor, learning our products and helping customers.

You'll

- Help customers find products for their projects




- Assist with fabric, notions and accessories
- Process sales when needed
- Support the team during busy periods and events
- Learn the basics of our sewing and embroidery machines
- Eventually participate in machine demonstrations as your knowledge grows
- Help connect what customers see online with what they experience in-store

Machine sales represent approximately 60% of our annual revenue, so developing solid product and sales knowledge will be an important part of the role. Don't worry—you won't be expected to know it all on day one. We'll train you.

WHAT YOU DON'T NEED

You don't need to be an experienced sewer.

You don't need to know every sewing machine brand.

You don't need previous sewing-store experience.

We can teach you our products and our industry.

What we can't easily teach is initiative, creativity, curiosity, reliability and genuine enthusiasm for people.

If you bring those things, we'll give you plenty to learn.

THE DETAILS

Position: Marketing & Education Coordinator / Sales Associate

Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Hours: Approximately 37.5–40 hours per week

Schedule: Primarily weekdays, with occasional evenings and weekends for classes and events

Starting Wage: $16–18/hour during the 3-month training period

Wage Review: Opportunities for increases based on performance, attitude and demonstrated skills

Compensation: Participation in applicable team sales commissions/targets

Requirements

- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Comfortable using social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram; TikTok experience is an asset
- Comfortable learning new software and technology
- Ability to organize and manage multiple projects
- Ability to lift up to 25 kg
- Ability to stand or sit for extended periods
- Flexible availability for occasional evenings and weekends
- Sewing experience is not required

They can be simple. We're not looking for polished agency work.

We want to see how you think, what catches your attention, how you communicate an idea and whether you can turn a thought into something people would want to see.

You can submit your ideas as written concepts, a mock post, photo, short video or whatever format best shows your creativity.

If you already have examples of social content, photography, video, graphic design, writing or other creative work you're proud of, we'd love to see those too.
