Water Meter Technician | Meter Exchange Project | St. Thomas, ON

This role may also be known as: Water Meter Installer, Meter Exchange Technician, Utility Field Technician, Field Service Technician (Water Meters)

Hands-on field role exchanging water meters at homes and businesses across St. Thomas. $27–$32/hr, 5 openings, local work.

We're looking for five reliable, motivated Meter Technicians to support a water meter exchange project right here in St. Thomas, Ontario. You'll visit residential and commercial properties on a set schedule, swap out existing water meters for new ones, confirm everything is working, and log each completed job on a mobile device. Every appointment has a clear start and a clear finish, and you'll be the one who gets it done right.

If you're mechanically inclined, comfortable with hand tools, and genuinely good with people, this is a chance to put all of that to work on a focused, well-organized project in your own community.

You'll have real autonomy, managing your own daily list of appointments and owning each exchange from removal to verified installation, while a Lead Technician and Project Manager back you up whenever access issues or questions come up.



You don't need a trade ticket to be considered. Previous plumbing, water meter, or utility experience is an asset, but strong mechanical aptitude and customer service skills are what truly set a great Meter Technician apart.

What You'll Be Doing

Take ownership of each exchange from start to finish, removing existing water meters and installing replacement meters and related components

Work through your scheduled appointments at residential and commercial properties and keep the project on track

Confirm every replacement meter is properly installed and functioning before moving on

Spot and report anything that prevents an exchange from being completed

Be the professional face of the project, explaining the exchange process and answering residents' and property owners' questions

Capture meter information, installation details, and completion data accurately using mobile devices and digital applications

Follow all safety procedures and project requirements and leave every work area clean and professional

Keep your Lead Technician or Project Manager informed of access issues or project concerns

What We're Looking For

Solid mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand tools

Ability to work independently and manage a daily schedule





Strong communication and customer service skills

Comfort using smartphones, tablets, and digital applications

Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Legally entitled to work in Canada

Ability to pass any required background or screening checks

Ability to lift and carry up to approximately 40 lbs, and to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in confined or restricted spaces, indoors and outdoors in varying weather

Flexibility to accommodate project scheduling requirements

Assets: previous plumbing, water meter, utility, mechanical, or related experience; previous water meter exchange experience; availability to work until 6:00 PM; Saturday availability

Compensation & Work Model

$27.00 to $32.00 per hour, based on experience. This is a project-based contractor position with five openings. Work is field-based, onsite at residential and commercial properties. Start date to be confirmed.

Location & Travel

St. Thomas, Ontario and the surrounding area. Candidates local to St. Thomas are preferred. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required to travel between scheduled appointments.
