The Opportunity We're seeking an accomplished and strategic National Managing Director, Commercial Services Group to join the Executive Leadership Team at General Bank of Canada.

This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of a growing Schedule I bank and lead the evolution of commercial banking. As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will influence enterprise strategy, drive sustainable growth, and ensure the commercial lending business operates within a strong framework of risk management, governance, and regulatory compliance.

Reporting directly to the President, the National Managing Director is accountable for the overall leadership, performance, and strategic direction of the Bank's Commercial Services Group. This includes responsibility for commercial banking strategy, portfolio management, business development, credit risk oversight, profitability, and organizational effectiveness across all commercial lending activities.

The successful candidate will balance growth and risk through disciplined portfolio management, sound credit practices, and strong regulatory stewardship while fostering a high-performing leadership culture. Working closely with the Executive Leadership Team, Board of Directors and other internal and external partners, the National Managing Director will play a pivotal role in advancing the Bank's strategic priorities, strengthening client relationships, and positioning General Bank of Canada for long-term success.

Position Responsibilities

Enterprise Leadership

- Shape and influence the Bank's strategic direction, long-term vision, organizational priorities, and growth agenda.
- Serve as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, contributing to enterprise decision-making, governance, risk oversight, and organizational performance.
- Champion a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and responsible growth across the organization.
- Lead organizational change initiatives and strategic transformations that enhance competitiveness, operational effectiveness, and client outcomes.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to establish and execute financial, business, and people strategies that support the Bank's long-term success.

Business Development & Growth Strategy

- Establish and execute the national commercial banking strategy in alignment with enterprise objectives, risk appetite, and shareholder expectations.
- Identify and pursue strategic growth opportunities, including new markets, industry verticals, products, partnerships, and geographic expansion.
- Drive sustainable portfolio growth through strategic client acquisition, relationship expansion, and market differentiation.
- Evaluate changing economic conditions, industry trends, and competitive dynamics to inform business strategy and investment decisions.
- Build and maintain executive-level relationships with key clients, strategic partners, industry leaders, and other stakeholders.
- Represent the Bank in the marketplace and strengthen its reputation through industry leadership and external engagement.

Portfolio Strategy & Performance

- Establish portfolio objectives and performance measures aligned with the Bank's strategic and financial plans.
- Maintain executive oversight of asset quality, concentration risk, profitability, portfolio diversification, and growth performance.
- Assess portfolio trends, economic conditions, and emerging risks to inform strategic decision-making and resource allocation.
- Provide portfolio reporting, strategic recommendations, and risk insights to Executive Leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Ensure portfolio performance remains aligned with approved risk appetite, capital objectives, and regulatory expectations.

Credit Risk & Governance

- Establish and oversee commercial credit policies, underwriting standards,



lending authorities, and portfolio risk management practices.
- Ensure commercial banking activities operate within the Bank's approved risk appetite and regulatory expectations.
- Exercise delegated lending authority and provide executive oversight of complex credit transactions, restructurings, and material risk exposures.
- Provide effective challenge on significant credit decisions and strategic transactions.
- Monitor portfolio quality, emerging risks, and credit performance while ensuring timely corrective actions when required.
- Foster a strong risk culture that balances prudent risk management with sustainable business growth.
- Ensure commercial lending activities comply with applicable legislation, regulations, internal policies, and governance requirements.

Deposit Growth & Funding Strategy

- Develop and execute strategies to grow and diversify the Bank's commercial deposit portfolio.
- Drive acquisition of stable, relationship-based deposits that support funding, liquidity, and profitability objectives.
- Partner with Treasury, Finance, Risk, and Banking leaders to align growth strategies with balance sheet, liquidity, and capital management objectives.
- Establish performance expectations, accountability measures, and growth targets related to deposit generation.
- Optimize deposit mix, pricing, and relationship profitability to enhance enterprise value and net interest margin.
- Expand market share within priority industries, regions, and client segments while managing funding concentration risk.
- Strengthen client loyalty and retention through deeper primary banking relationships and value-added solutions.

Leadership & Organizational Effectiveness

- Lead, develop, and empower a high-performing leadership team responsible for delivering commercial banking objectives.
- Create a culture of accountability, collaboration, inclusion, innovation, and client-centricity.
- Drive talent succession, leadership development, workforce planning, and organizational capability across the Commercial Services Group.
- Ensure consistent execution of strategic priorities and performance expectations across all regions and business units.
- Serve as a role model for the Bank's values, leadership principles, and risk culture.

Regulatory Compliance & Governance

- Ensure the Commercial Services Group operates in compliance with applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, OSFI expectations, and internal governance frameworks.
- Maintain effective relationships with regulators, auditors, and other external stakeholders.
- Support Board and Board Committee governance processes through reporting, recommendations, and strategic risk discussions.
- Ensure appropriate controls, oversight mechanisms, and accountabilities are in place to identify, manage, and mitigate business and credit risks.
- Promote a culture of strong governance, ethical conduct, compliance, and prudent risk management throughout the business line.
- Perform other duties as assigned

Executive & Board Engagement

- Act as a trusted advisor to the President, Executive Leadership Team, and Board of Directors on commercial banking strategy, portfolio performance, market dynamics, and emerging risks.
- Present business performance, strategic initiatives, and risk matters to Executive Leadership and the Board as required.
- Contribute to enterprise-wide decision-making regarding capital allocation, strategic investments, mergers and acquisitions, and long-term growth opportunities.

What You Bring to the Table The National Managing Director is a strategic and commercially astute executive with demonstrated success leading high-performing commercial banking businesses. You are a trusted advisor, relationship builder, and enterprise leader who effectively balances growth, profitability, and risk while promoting a culture of accountability, collaboration, and client focus. You bring strong business judgment, exceptional leadership capabilities, and the ability to influence strategic outcomes across the organization. You are equally comfortable engaging with clients, regulators, the Board of Directors, and executive leadership while navigating complex business, credit, and market environments.

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, economics, or a related discipline.
- Minimum fifteen (15)+ years of progressive leadership experience within commercial banking, commercial finance, corporate banking, credit risk management, or a related financial services environment.
- Demonstrated executive leadership experience with accountability for business growth, profitability, portfolio quality, risk management, and organizational performance.
- Extensive experience managing large and complex commercial lending portfolios across multiple industries, client segments, and geographies.




- Deep expertise in commercial credit underwriting, portfolio management, structuring, risk governance, and regulatory compliance within a federally regulated financial institution.
- Proven ability to develop and execute business strategies that drive sustainable growth while maintaining strong risk-adjusted returns.
- Strong understanding of balance sheet management, funding strategies, capital considerations, and commercial banking economics.
- Demonstrated success building, leading, and developing high-performing leadership teams, including succession planning and organizational capability development.
- Experience presenting to and influencing Executive Leadership Teams, Board Committees, and external stakeholders on business performance, strategy, and risk matters.
- Exceptional relationship management, negotiation, leadership, communication, and strategic decision-making skills.
- Ability to satisfy pre-employment screening requirements, including criminal background checks, credit checks, and professional reference verification.

Preferred Qualifications

- MBA, post-graduate education, or other advanced business, finance, or leadership designation.
- Professional designation such as CPA, CFA, CBV, ICD.D, or equivalent.
- Experience within a federally regulated Schedule I financial institution.
- Experience leading commercial lending businesses in a high-growth or transformational environment.
- Aviation finance, equipment finance, or specialized asset finance experience.
- Experience with secured lending, asset-based lending, structured finance, or complex commercial transactions.
- Proven track record of leading strategic initiatives involving business transformation, market expansion, product innovation, or organizational growth.
