Basic Requirements

- Diploma from a certified full-time ophthalmic technologist training program from a recognized institution;
- Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist, COMT Certification with the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO);
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge in ophthalmology and disease process;




- Demonstrates advanced technical skills in tonometry, visual fields, color vision, clinical optics, ocular motility, photography and pharmacology;
- Demonstrates working knowledge of regulatory standards;
- Demonstrates ability and desire to supervise, lead, coach and mentor;
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills;
- Demonstrates professional approach to patients, public and colleagues;
- Demonstrates personal commitment to continuing education and research;
- Ability to prioritize and adjust to changes as well as unexpected situations;
- Eligible to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

- Current experience as a Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist;
- Proficiency in English and French oral expression (level 4 - advanced) and comprehension (level 4 - advanced).

The Ottawa

Hospital uses a 5-level language proficiency scale to define the required level of language skills in English and in French for positions at the Hospital, and to evaluate job candidate language skills. Language proficiency requirements are based on the nature of the position at the level of interaction with French and English speaking clients.
