Who the OEC is: The Optical Experience Consultant turns the doctor’s prescriptions into eyewear the patient loves. From the post-exam handoff through discovery, styling, lens education, closing, and dispensing, the OEC delivers the premium optical experience that makes the hybrid model work — flexing product, brand, and tier to the patient while never overriding the OD’s clinical recommendations.
The 10 Core Responsibilities
1. The Post-Exam Handoff & Discovery Conversation
Main idea: Don’t start selling — start understanding. Learn the patient as a person first.
2. Frame Selection & Styling
Main idea: A premium experience feels curated, not self-serve — your expertise shows in what you choose to present.
3. Lens Education & Premium Recommendation
Main idea: Present the best solution first — top tier down — and explain lenses as outcomes, not specs.
4. Insurance Optimization & Pricing
Main idea: Explain what the patient owes and what you’ll submit — never promise what the insurer will pay.
5. Closing & Order Processing
Main idea: Close on the solution, not on pressure — and read back the full order before processing, every time.
6. Path 3 Specialty Follow-Up Booking ( the CL Sale)
Main idea:
You book the OD’s non-urgent follow-up testing — but the service is paid with the PCC on the day it’s done.
7. Dispensing, Fit & Post-Sale Follow-Up
Main idea: Pickup is a dedicated consultation and one of your biggest loyalty moments — not a hand-off.
8. Product Knowledge & Continuous Learning
Main idea: Be the most knowledgeable person in the room about what’s on the board and in the lab.
9. Optical Area Presentation & Frame Board Discipline
Main idea: A clean, curated optical area is a non-verbal premium signal — a dusty shelf undermines every premium claim you make.
10. Team Support & Cross-Role Collaboration
Main idea: You’re part of one team — support the flow, back up other roles, and protect the premium experience together.
