Developmental Support Worker / Personal Support Worker / Certified Nursing Assistant / Health Care Aide - Bloor West Village, Toronto - CAD$432.00/week

Description

About the Client:

We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a 92-year-old woman living independently in her condo near Bloor West Village. She experiences significant memory loss and declining cognitive abilities, often switching between English and Spanish without realizing it. Despite these challenges, she values her independence and wishes to continue living in her own home.

She has a warm relationship with her neighbors, including a friend who has been helping but needs additional support as the care requirements have increased.

Responsibilities:

- Provide companionship and engage in conversation throughout the day
- Assist with bathing and personal hygiene
- Prepare meals and provide feeding support as needed
- Offer medication reminders (morning and evening medication management may be handled by neighbor)
- Provide memory prompts and gentle redirection when needed
- Light supervision to ensure safety throughout the day
- Accompany client on walks around the neighborhood or to Bloor West Village
- Assist with taking public transportation if needed
- Engage in activities around the condo to keep client stimulated and comfortable

What We're Looking For:

- Fluent Spanish speaker (essential requirement as client frequently speaks Spanish)
- Experience working with seniors with memory loss or cognitive decline
- Patient, calm demeanor with ability to provide gentle redirection
- Reliable and consistent presence
- Strong communication skills with family members
- Comfortable with personal care including bathing assistance

- Ability to take initiative while respecting client's independence
- Warm, positive energy that makes client feel comfortable and safe

Schedule:

Monday through Friday (4-5 days per week), 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This schedule is ideal for caregivers with school-age children as it allows for morning drop-off and afternoon pickup. Start date is October 5th, with ongoing care expected for at least six months, potentially longer. The consistent schedule provides stability for both caregiver and client.

This is a wonderful prospect to make a meaningful difference in helping a senior maintain her independence and quality of life in her own home.

Additional Considerations The client's mother lives independently in a condo and has significant memory loss with declining cognitive abilities. She switches between English and Spanish without realizing it. A neighbor (Gabby, 78) currently helps with morning and evening medications and will continue to do so, but additional daytime support is needed.

The caregiver should be comfortable working alongside this existing support system. The mother is resistant to moving into a care home, so maintaining her independence at home is a priority for the family.
