We are seeking a Project Engineer to join the Drainage Team within our Transportation and Infrastructure Division.

This role contributes to the planning, design, coordination, and delivery of drainage and transportation infrastructure projects. Working closely with project managers, technical staff, clients, agencies, and other stakeholders, the Project Engineer applies technical expertise and professional judgement to deliver practical, high-quality solutions that meet project, regulatory, and client requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Design and Analysis

- Lead preliminary and detailed design projects pertaining to drainage infrastructure, including culverts, bridges, sewers, channels, and watercourses; including support for multi-discipline transportation networks.
- Complete hydrologic analyses, including rainfall and runoff assessments with due consideration to the impacts of Climate Change, and hydraulic analyses related to flow and conveyance.
- Apply engineering principles, technical standards, and professional judgement to resolve complex design challenges.
- Complete design calculations, feasibility studies, site investigations, and supporting technical analyses.
- Prepare clear, accurate, and well-structured engineering reports, design briefs, and technical memos.
- Prepare engineering drawings, specifications, cost estimates, technical reports, and recommendations.
- Sign and seal engineering drawings and reports within the scope of professional responsibility.

Project Planning and Coordination
- Develop project workplans, budgets, schedules, resource requirements, and execution strategies.
- Coordinate project activities and technical inputs across internal teams, clients, agencies, and subconsultants.
- Manage multiple assignments while maintaining project scope, budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
- Identify project risks and constraints, recommend practical solutions, and escalate concerns when appropriate.

Regulatory Approvals and Compliance
- Interpret and apply relevant legislation, regulations, policies, design criteria, and approval requirements.
- Prepare technical documentation to support regulatory reviews, permits, and approvals.
- Coordinate with the Ministry of Transportation, municipalities, Conservation Authorities, and other agencies to address technical and approval requirements.
- Ensure work complies with professional obligations, legal requirements, corporate policies, and health and safety standards.

Quality and Technical Oversight
- Review technical submissions for accuracy,



completeness, coordination, and compliance.
- Apply consistent quality-control and documentation practices throughout the project lifecycle.
- Take accountability for engineering decisions and deliverables within assigned authority.

Tendering and Construction Support
- Prepare tender documents, technical specifications, quantities, and supporting materials.
- Respond to technical inquiries, review submissions, and assist with tender recommendations.
- Provide technical clarification and design support to project teams during construction and implementation.

Client and Stakeholder Collaboration
- Build effective relationships with clients, project teams, agencies, subconsultants, vendors, and other stakeholders.
- Communicate technical information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Participate in project meetings by presenting information, documenting decisions and actions, and reporting on progress.
- Manage expectations and respond to client and stakeholder inquiries in a timely and informed manner.

What You Bring:

Required Qualifications and Experience

- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with Professional Engineers Ontario.
- At least 5 years of relevant civil engineering experience involving drainage or transportation infrastructure.
- Experience delivering projects for the Ministry of Transportation and/or municipalities.
- Experience with culvert design, bridge hydraulic design, watercourse evaluation, design of erosion protection systems, storm sewer design, and design of other non-structural drainage systems.
- Knowledge of hydrologic analysis, including rainfall and runoff, and hydraulic analysis related to flow and conveyance.
- Experience preparing engineering designs, calculations, drawings, reports, estimates, specifications, and tender documents.
- Demonstrated technical report-writing skills, with experience clearly documenting engineering analyses, design decisions, findings, and recommendations for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience using relevant technical software, such as HEC-RAS, HY-8, HEC-SSP, Visual OTTHYMO, AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcMap, or QGIS.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet project deadlines, and respond effectively to clients and stakeholders.
- A motivated and self-directed approach, with demonstrated initiative, sound judgement, and openness to new technologies and creative solutions.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience
- Experience with floodplain analysis and mapping.




- Experience working with Conservation Authorities.
- Knowledge of fish-passage design and assessment.
- Experience preparing stormwater management reports for site plans and subdivisions.
