Position Summary:

The Recreation Facilitator plays a vital part in the recovery journey of Del-Art recovery home residents by bringing joy, creativity, and healthy socialization into the home. Your primary goal is to create a relaxed, non-judgmental environment where residents can practice social skills, discover new hobbies, and decompress through structured, low-stress activities

Location: Del-Art Recovery home, Keewatin, ON

Key Responsibilities:

- Activity Planning & Execution: Design and lead straightforward, engaging recreational activities. This could include board games or trivia nights, casual art/painting sessions, movie nights, journaling workshops, or music jams.
- Active Engagement: Actively participate in the activities alongside the residents. Be a conversationalist, fostering an inclusive atmosphere where everyone feels welcome to join in or just observe.
- Encouragement & Support: Gently encourage resident participation without applying pressure. Recognize that residents may have fluctuating energy levels or moods on any given day.
- Setup and Teardown: Arrive early to gather supplies, arrange the space to be welcoming, and clean up the area with the staff, once the activity concludes.
- Uphold Boundaries: Maintain clear, friendly, and non-clinical boundaries. Redirect conversations if they become triggering and report any behavioral or safety concerns to the staff on duty.

Qualifications:

- Age requirements: 18 and above
- Strong Interpersonal Skills: Outgoing, empathetic, and comfortable talking to people from diverse backgrounds.
- Emotional Intelligence:



The ability to read the room and adjust the energy of the activity as needed (e.g., switching from a lively game to a quieter activity if residents seem overwhelmed).
- Reliability: Consistency is crucial in a recovery setting. Volunteers must be dependable and show up for their scheduled shifts.
- Healthy Boundaries: An understanding of the difference between being a supportive community member and a therapist or counselor.
- Specific Talents (Optional but helpful): An affinity for arts, crafts, music, fitness, or tabletop gaming is a fantastic bonus, but a willingness to learn, play and educate is all that is strictly required.

Training & Onboarding:

- Orientation to Del-Art and Lake of the woods District Hospital.
- Brief training on trauma-informed engagement, addiction sensitivity, and boundary-setting
- Shadowing a staff member during your first couple sessions.
