Pediatric Oncology within Acute Children's Services encompasses an inpatient and outpatient pediatric component. This component includes acute tertiary and subspecialty oncology medical and surgical care for children aged 0-18 years from the Central-West region within a family-centered environment. The hematology oncology pediatric team involves the care of children from hospital to home in all settings in the Children's Hospital including 3B, an inpatient hematology oncology unit; and 3F, an ambulatory medical day unit with a full spectrum of pediatric hematology oncology clinics.

Position Summary The Registered Nurse provides complex treatments to patients with oncological diagnoses throughout all stages of their illness and acts as a specialized resource to patients and families. The RN works with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to support patients through assessment,



treatment, and ongoing care.

Responsibilities include Chemotherapy and Biotherapy administration, symptom management, identification and management of oncological emergencies, CVL care and management.

The Registered

Nurse provides ongoing patient and family education throughout the stages of the patient’s treatment journey and is knowledgeable in creative therapies and clinical trials.

Monday – Friday days/evenings

Qualifications

- Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
- Recent two years of experience (within the last 5 years) in the care of pediatric oncology patients in a dedicated oncology setting
- Recent experience with primary nursing in an outpatient setting
- Current APHON Chemotherapy Biotherapy Provider
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification and ongoing re-certification mandatory
- Evidence of experience and participation in clinical trials
- Experience in development of education and program materials with the healthcare team for children with blood and cancer illnesses and their families
- Demonstrated knowledge, skill and ability in health teaching for pediatric patients and their families specific to the needs of the clinic population
- Demonstrated skills in physical and psychosocial assessment specific to the Pediatric Hematology & Oncology population
- Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and continuous quality improvement
- Demonstrated leadership within a healthcare team
- Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively within the interdisciplinary health and support team
- Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication

Proficiency in both Official Languages would be an asset.
