The Registered Pharmacy

Technician (RPT) position is a regulated position that requires the individual to be licensed with the provincial college of pharmacy in Nova Scotia.

The Registered Pharmacy

Technician is responsible for providing excellent customer service in a friendly, knowledgeable and professional manner. The Technician is responsible to identify and schedule professional clinical services as well as focus on the achievement of pharmacy excellence in the areas of customer service, workflow efficiencies, and inventory management.

- Complete prescription data entry and technical checking duties within the scope of practice.
- Prepare medications for dispensing and ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Provide friendly and professional service to patients.
- Communicate with patients, healthcare providers, and pharmacy staff as required.
- Assist with medication reconciliation and other pharmacy services.
- Maintain accurate patient and prescription records.
- Assist with inventory management, ordering, receiving, and organizing medications and pharmacy supplies.
- Follow all pharmacy policies, procedures, and applicable Nova Scotia regulatory requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe pharmacy environment.
- Contribute to a positive, respectful, and patient-centered workplace.
- Administer medications by injection

The Registered Pharmacy Technician (RPT) will have independent authority, responsibility and liability to prepare, process and compound prescriptions including:

- receive and transcribe verbal prescriptions from practitioners
- ensure that a prescription is complete and authentic
- transfer prescriptions to and receive prescriptions from other pharmacies,
- ensure the accuracy of a prepared prescription,
- perform the final check of a prepared prescription

Job Requirements





- Registered and in good standing as a Pharmacy Technician in Nova Scotia.
- Pharmacy Technician diploma from an accredited program.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Community pharmacy experience is an asset.
- Reliable, professional, and patient-focused approach.

Education and Experience:

- Completion of the Pharmacy Technician Certification for NS and liability insurance
- Previous pharmacy experience
- Experience with Kroll Pharmacy Computer systems preferred
- Essential: High School Diploma or equivalent
- Criminal record check
