Position Overview:

We are seeking a Registered Veterinary Technician to join our team. This role primarily supports the veterinary team in clinical practice and fieldwork, while contributing to the day-to-day operations of the practice. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal health, excellent organizational and communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering high quality service to our clients and their flocks.

Previous poultry experience is not required; we value individuals who are eager to learn and interested in developing their knowledge of commercial poultry medicine. New graduates are welcome and encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:

- Collaborate with our veterinarians, both in practice and on farm, to provide support during intake, examination, sampling, diagnosis, and treatment of poultry flocks;
- Collect and process diagnostic samples, including blood, fecal, environmental, and tissue specimens;
- Research and review scientific literature, summarizing relevant findings to support our veterinarians, clinical decision-making, and practice initiatives;
- Communicate effectively with clients in person, over the phone, and via email to gather information, receive requests, and relay information from our veterinarians;
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and biosecurity both in practice and on farm to support a professional, welcoming, and safe setting;
- Receive and organize supply orders and maintain and monitor inventory levels;
- Approach challenging situations tactfully and respectfully, demonstrating professionalism and empathy;
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and comprehensive documentation while protecting client confidentiality at all times;
- Participate in team building, training, and professional development opportunities while contributing to a positive team culture;
- Contribute to the day-to-day needs of the practice and foster a cooperative and supportive work setting;
- Adhere to all established protocols and guidelines set by PPVS; and




- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements:

- Registered Veterinary Technician and member in good standing with the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians;
- Valid G driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle;
- Strong attention to detail, with a commitment to accuracy and quality;
- Ability to multitask, problem-solve, and effectively prioritize responsibilities in a dynamic work environment;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to develop positive and professional relationships with clients and colleagues;
- Proficiency with computers and comfort working within the Microsoft 365 environment;
- Strong organizational and time-management skills;
- Flexibility and adaptability when responding to changing priorities, circumstances, and responsibilities;
- Ability to safely perform job duties in a variety of farm, clinical, and environmental conditions. This may include exposure to dirt, dust, pollen, odours, moisture, humidity, extreme temperatures, inclement weather, noise, varying lighting conditions, traffic hazards, chemicals, disinfectants, and animals or environments that may harbour zoonotic pathogens. Employees are expected to follow established biosecurity and safety protocols to minimize associated risks;
- Previous experience in agriculture is preferred but not required; and
- Commercial poultry experience would be considered an asset.

Hours & Location: Our standard hours of operation are Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Given the nature of livestock medicine, there may be occasions when additional hours are required outside of regular office hours to address the needs of our clients and their flocks.

This position includes participation in our on-call rotation, currently consisting of approximately one weekend per month. During an assigned on-call weekend, the RVT is paired with an on-call veterinarian and is required to remain available to assist with cases should the need arise. Weekend cases are infrequent, and many on-call weekends require no in person attendance; however, availability throughout the assigned weekend is required to ensure our team can respond when needed.

The position is primarily based out of our Wellington practice. Candidates should be prepared for occasional travel,



including visits to our Huron practice, farms, and other locations for deliveries and pick-ups as operational needs require. This aspect of the role supports collaboration across our practice locations and contributes to the overall success and cohesion of our team.

Compensation & Benefits:

- Starting wage of $28 per hour, with consideration given to experience;
- Professional membership dues;
- Annual Continuing Education allowance with 2 paid CE days per year;

- Mileage reimbursed at the provincial standard rate.

Rather than beginning with traditional in person interviews, candidates selected to participate in our interview process will be provided with a series of questions to complete on their own time and return for review by our team. This allows candidates the flexibility and time to consider their responses without the pressure of an immediate interview setting, while helping us learn more about their experience, interests, approach to veterinary medicine, and what they are looking for in their next role.

Following our review, selected candidates will be invited to meet with our team in person to discuss their responses, learn more about PPVS and the position, and ask questions of their own. Our goal is to respect everyone’s time and ensure the conversation is meaningful for both the candidate and our team by getting to know one another before moving further through the selection process.

Candidates progressing to the final stage may be invited to participate in a practical demonstration. This provides an opportunity to experience the practice environment, work alongside members of our team, and gain a better understanding of the day-to-day responsibilities of the role.
