The Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH) is one of Alberta's largest and longest-serving hospitals. Centrally located in Edmonton's downtown core, the RAH serves a diverse community, including some of the province's most vulnerable populations. With 869 beds and approximately 450,000 patient visits annually, the RAH is home to the Lois Hole Hospital for Women, the Women's Health Centre, the Regional Eye Centre, and the Aboriginal Health Program, in addition to a broad range of adult, pediatric, and geriatric services.

As the Respiratory Therapist II Area Specialist in Maintenance and Special Procedures, you will play a key role in supporting the delivery of safe, effective respiratory care within a dynamic tertiary care environment. This advanced practice position combines clinical expertise, technical specialization, education, and leadership. You will provide expertise in respiratory equipment maintenance, quality assurance, troubleshooting, and repair, helping to ensure critical equipment is safe, reliable, and available to support patient care.

In support of point-of-care testing (POCT) services, you will also facilitate communication with respiratory therapists across clinical areas regarding equipment performance, quality control processes, and laboratory standards. Working collaboratively with respiratory therapists, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members, you will support specialized procedures, including bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS). You will provide consultation and education to staff and students, contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives, support daily operations, and help ensure the delivery of high-quality respiratory therapy services.

This position works primarily Days (start time alternates 0645/0745/0815).

Description

As a Respiratory Therapist II, you will coordinate, monitor and assess clinical services in your assigned area. You will act as a clinical resource for daily operations, coordinating the work of therapy assessment and treatment in your service area,



and assist in the development of clinical protocols. You will develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor the progress of patients (clients, residents) receiving advanced respiratory treatment.

You will identify new equipment requirements, and establish and maintain adequate levels of supplies and materials for your area. You will be responsible for respiratory equipment, including but not limited to operation, procurement, maintenance, and quality assurance. You will participate in interprofessional patient, client or resident rounds, conferences and meetings where applicable.

Required Qualifications

Active or eligible registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CRTA).

Additional Required Qualifications

Graduate of a recognized Respiratory Therapy program and eligible to write or have completed the CBRC exam. Current CRTA registration and BLS-HCP required. Minimum 2 years of acute care RT experience, including critical care. Strong communication, critical thinking, problem-solving and organizational skills required. Must be reliable, motivated, adaptable, and able to work independently and collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications

Current experience with bronchoscopy and EBUS is an asset.

Experience with troubleshooting, maintenance, repair and application of respiratory equipment and POCT is preferred. Excellent communication, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated initiative, motivation, and the ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
