Looking for a new and exciting job opportunity? We are looking for 1 Senior Design Engineer, Electrical and 2 Senior Design Engineer, Traction Power to join our team!
This position performs the more complex electrical engineering duties and manages the activities and projects associated with the design, operation, and/or maintenance of the TTC's electrical traction power systems. The role provides engineering support and guidance to maintenance staff on a 24-hour basis, provides engineering expertise.
What You Will Do
- Produce, check and approve various parts of technical documentation: design drawings, systems operation descriptions, estimates, material lists, specifications, standards, policies, work methods, test procedures, schedules and designs for planned and emergency work
- Co-ordinate engineering services with departmental construction crews, outside contractors and other TTC departments
- Inspect, assess, and prepare engineered details for the implementation of new, and modification and rehabilitation of existing systems and facilities in order to ensure acceptable standards of performance and reliability
- Conduct comprehensive testing programs, diagnose complex engineering problems; prepare reports and recommendations related to engineering work requirements, priorities, budgets and schedules
- Provide direction and co-ordination to TTC staff, consultants and contractors engaged in engineering work
- Take professional responsibilities for design work as required by the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO)
- May be required to work outside of the standard work week to respond to trouble calls and other requirements of business
- Participation in the TTC Customer Service Ambassador Program

What Qualifications Do You Bring?
- Your educational background will consist of the completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (i.e. Electrical/Electronic Engineering) or combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent
- Extensive directly related work experience
- Registration with the Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO) is mandatory
- Sound knowledge of electrical engineering principles, traction power substations, operating work methods and practices plus a strong knowledge of project management concepts and practices, and have the ability to carry out and/or co-ordinate projects and activities associated with the electrical and traction power systems
- Strong working knowledge of the AC and DC switchgear, DC traction power substations, industrial electrical installations, protective relays, overcurrent protection coordination, transformers, uninterrupted power supply and battery back up and lighting, and electrical and traction power systems.
- Sound judgement plus excellent technical, analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, verbal communication and report writing skills, and have experience in dealing with the local electric utility and the City of Toronto
- Strong knowledge of the Electrical Safety Code, NFPA codes, the Canadian Electrical Code and the Commission’s electrical and traction power systems, energy billing and power monitoring systems and the associated electrical/electronic equipment as well as the various functions carried out by the SEC Department
- Computer literate with a good working knowledge of personal computers and computerized applications related to the work, particularly various electronic test equipment
- Ability to plan, co-ordinate and direct activities of personnel assisting in electrical design work
- Ability to provide direction to consultants and contractors engaged in associated activities
- Prior experience and knowledge of Electrical and Traction Power system in a transit agency would be beneficial
