Job Summary

We are seeking a Senior Integration Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and governance of API and integration capabilities across multiple enterprise workstreams.

This is a senior staff-level, hands-on engineering role for someone who can operate independently in a fast-moving and evolving environment. The ideal candidate combines strong integration architecture expertise with practical implementation experience and is comfortable navigating ambiguity, establishing structure, and solving complex technical problems with minimal oversight.

The role will work closely with engineering, data architecture, security, and platform teams to establish scalable, secure, and reusable integration patterns across the enterprise.

Key Responsibilities

- Own and drive the API and integration intake lifecycle, including intake, technical triage, prioritization, architecture, and execution across multiple workstreams.
- Define, establish, and govern API contract standards and integration patterns, including REST APIs, event-driven APIs, and AsyncAPI.
- Design and implement secure integration boundaries and data protection controls, including tokenization of NPI/PII to prevent sensitive data exposure in development and lower environments.
- Establish scalable synchronous and event-driven integration architectures that support reliability, security, performance, and maintainability.
- Configure, develop, and manage the enterprise API gateway platform, including Gravitee policies, authentication, authorization, rate limiting, access control, and traffic management.
- Configure and develop integrations using Workato or comparable iPaaS/orchestration platforms, including workflow- and recipe-based integration patterns.
- Design and support event streaming architectures and pipelines using Kafka/AWS MSK.
- Contribute to durable workflow and business process orchestration using Temporal or comparable durable-execution frameworks.
- Ensure API and integration contracts align with the organization's canonical and logical data models, partnering closely with Data Architecture and related teams.
- Establish reusable integration patterns, standards, reference architectures, and technical guidelines to improve consistency across teams.
- Partner with security and platform teams to implement appropriate authentication, authorization, encryption, tokenization, and data protection controls.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership, including architecture, design, implementation, troubleshooting, and technical decision-making.




- Identify technical gaps and independently develop practical solutions to unblock engineering teams and accelerate delivery.
- Bring lessons learned from real-world implementations to improve architecture, engineering practices, and operational reliability.

Required Qualifications & Technical SkillsAPI & Integration Architecture
- Strong experience designing and implementing enterprise API ecosystems and integration architectures at scale.
- Deep understanding of REST API design, API contracts, AsyncAPI, and integration governance.
- Experience defining reusable API and integration patterns across multiple applications, platforms, and business domains.
- Strong understanding of synchronous, asynchronous, and event-driven integration architectures.

API Gateway & iPaaS
- Hands-on experience with API gateways, including:
- API policies
- Rate limiting
- Authentication and authorization
- Access control
- Traffic management
- API lifecycle governance
- Experience with Gravitee is highly desirable.
- Experience with Apigee, MuleSoft, Kong, or comparable API management platforms is relevant.
- Hands-on experience with Workato or comparable iPaaS/orchestration platforms is highly desirable.

Security & Data Protection
- Strong knowledge of modern authentication and authorization standards, including:
- OAuth 2.0
- OpenID Connect (OIDC)
- JWT
- Experience implementing data protection and privacy controls for PII/NPI and other sensitive data.
- Hands-on experience with tokenization technologies, such as Protegrity, TokenEx, or equivalent solutions.
- Understanding of secure data handling across development, test, staging, and production environments.

Event Streaming & Workflow Orchestration
- Strong hands-on experience with Kafka and/or AWS MSK.
- Experience designing event-driven architectures, event contracts, topics, producers/consumers, and reliable event-processing patterns.
- Experience with Temporal or comparable durable workflow orchestration frameworks is desirable.
- Understanding of distributed systems, asynchronous processing, retries, error handling, idempotency, and resiliency patterns.

Data Architecture




- Experience defining or consuming canonical/logical data models for API and integration contract design.
- Understanding of enterprise data modeling, master data management, and data standardization is desirable.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Data Architecture teams to ensure consistent enterprise data contracts.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with AI agent orchestration and agentic workflow patterns, such as LangGraph or comparable frameworks.
- Experience integrating GenAI/LLM-based services into enterprise applications and workflows.
- Experience with cloud-native architectures, particularly AWS.
- Experience with microservices and distributed systems.
- Experience establishing enterprise-wide API and integration governance frameworks.
- Experience working in large-scale enterprise transformation or modernization programs.

Pay: $80.00-$100.00 per hour
