Overview
We are seeking a seasoned Planner/Scheduler III to join our Project Services team supporting Brownfield capital projects and a portfolio with annual project spend exceeding $1 billion. Based in Edmonton, this role is critical to building out our Edmonton team as Calgary operations are phased down. The successful candidate will be a senior technical anchor who mentors junior staff and rotating employees, and will collaborate daily with global stakeholders including colleagues in India.
Upstream
Oil & Gas experience is strongly preferred, though equivalent downstream experience will be considered.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and control integrated project schedules using Primavera P6 across all phases of Brownfield capital projects.
- Perform schedule analysis including critical path analysis, float analysis, logic review, and schedule risk assessment.
- Establish schedule baselines, monitor progress, and produce regular schedule performance reports with variance analysis.
- Coordinate with cost engineers, project managers, and engineering/construction teams to ensure schedule integrity and integration.
- Facilitate schedule reviews with project teams and provide input to project reporting packages and gate reviews.
- Support development of resource-loaded schedules and manpower planning where required.
- Benchmark scheduling practices and contribute to continuous improvement of planning standards, tools, and templates.
- Mentor junior planners/schedulers and newly onboarded team members; serve as a technical resource for rotating staff.
- Collaborate effectively with global team members including counterparts in India and other international offices.
- Apply understanding of refinery and upstream O&G; facility operations to develop realistic and executable project schedules.
- Ensure compliance with technical certification standards and scheduling frameworks listed in the applicable .
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum 15 years of planning and scheduling experience on major capital projects.
- Experience on the Owner side of project delivery is required.
- Oil & Gas industry experience is mandatory.
- Upstream O&G; experience is strongly preferred (production facilities, drilling programs, pipelines, midstream).
- Downstream O&G; experience (refining, petrochemicals) will also be considered.
- Proficiency in Primavera P6; demonstrated ability to build and maintain complex, logic-driven schedules.
- Working knowledge of how refineries and upstream facilities operate — operational awareness that informs realistic scheduling.
- Relevant technical certifications as listed in the standard project controls (PMI-SP, AACE PSP, etc.).
- Solid mentoring and interpersonal skills; ability to support and develop junior team members.
- Effective communication skills in a global environment with team members across multiple time zones and cultures.
- Required to work on-site Monday-Friday
Preferred / Assets:
- Experience across a broad O&G; portfolio including drilling, helium production, or other upstream sub-sectors.
- ExxonMobil project or systems experience is an asset but not required.
- Familiarity with integrated project controls environments (cost + schedule integration).
