Join the Vancouver Island Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMH) Services team—a collaborative, multidisciplinary group committed to making a meaningful difference in the lives of children, youth, and families across the region. Role

As a CYMH Clinician on our team, you’ll provide direct clinical services including intake services, assessment, treatment, suicide risk assessment, safety planning, and crisis intervention for ages 0-18. You will work closely with team members, community agencies, schools, hospitals, and other ministry programs to provide comprehensive care, including individual, group and family therapy for children, youth, and families. You will have the opportunity to work with a supportive and passionate team to make a meaningful positive difference in the lives of children, youth, and their families facing emotional and behavioral challenges.

West Coast Community Focus The Port Alberni position includes primary responsibility for serving the communities of Tofino and Ucluelet on the west coast of Vancouver Island. This role emphasizes community outreach, relationship-building, and collaboration with local service providers, schools, Indigenous communities, health care partners, and other agencies to ensure accessible, coordinated, and culturally responsive mental health services for children, youth, and families.

Working in this unique and diverse coastal region, the clinician will foster strong community partnerships and deliver flexible, community-based services that respond to local needs and priorities. While based within the Port Alberni CYMH team,



the clinician will maintain close connections with colleagues and have regular opportunities to collaborate, access support, and work from the Port Alberni office as needed. This position offers a rewarding blend of autonomous community practice and team-based clinical support.

The Port Hardy CYMH Clinician position provides services to children, youth, and families throughout the Mt. Waddington service area. This diverse and expansive region includes several rural and remote communities, making outreach an important and rewarding part of the role.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build strong relationships within communities while supporting children, youth, and families closer to where they live. You will join a supportive, collaborative team that values connection, shared learning, and working together to achieve positive outcomes for children, youth, and families.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements

- Master’s in Counselling, Social Work, Educational Counselling, Clinical Counselling, Clinical Psychology or Child and Youth Care or comparable graduate degree at the Master’s level in a similar subject may be considered.
- NOTE: If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.

- Minimum of one (1) year full-time equivalent experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.

Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Two (2) years or more experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
- Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements
- You must possess and maintain a valid B.C. Class 5 driver’s license (note - if you currently have a valid driver’s license in Canada, and if you are the successful applicant, you must acquire a valid B.C. Class 5 driver's license immediately).

About this Position:

- One (1) full time permanent position located in Port Hardy





Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
