Term: April 26 – August 27, 2027 (adjustable based on school schedules)

Hours: Monday – Friday, 40 hours/week (some overtime may be required)

Compensation: $19–$23 per hour

Farming Smarter is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and motivated student to join our team as a Summer Communications Intern for the summer of 2027. This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in agricultural communications, marketing, event promotion, content creation, and stakeholder engagement while working alongside researchers, agronomists, industry leaders, and farmers.

As a member of our team, you will help tell the story of agricultural innovation by creating engaging content, supporting events, managing digital communications, and promoting research outcomes to producers and industry stakeholders. You will develop valuable skills in communications strategy, social media engagement, graphic design, photography, videography, writing, event coordination, and public engagement.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Content Creation & Storytelling

- Write and edit compelling articles, blog posts, newsletters, event promotions, and website content.
- Develop engaging social media content for multiple platforms.
- Support the creation of videos, graphics, photography, and other digital content showcasing Farming Smarter’s research and events.
- Conduct interviews with staff, researchers, industry partners, and producers to help share stories and results.

Digital Communications

- Assist with website updates and content management.
- Monitor social media channels and support audience engagement.
- Help track communications metrics and prepare reports on campaign performance.
- Maintain brand consistency across all communications materials.

Event Promotion & Support

- Assist in promoting field schools, tours, workshops, webinars, and other agricultural events.




- Help prepare event materials, signage, presentations, and participant communications.
- Attend events to provide photography, videography, social media coverage, and participant support.
- Work with staff to ensure successful event execution and follow up communications.

Stakeholder Engagement

- Support communications with farmers, industry partners, sponsors, members, and government stakeholders.
- Help maintain media and stakeholder contact databases.
- Assist with special projects and communications initiatives as required.

Skills and Qualifications:

- Strong written and verbal communications skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and proofreading abilities.
- Creative thinker with an interest in storytelling and audience engagement.
- Comfortable learning current technologies and communication platforms.
- Strong organization and time-management skills.
- Positive attitude and willingness to contribute as part of a collaborative team.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.

Requirements:

- Enrolment in, or completion of, a post-secondary program in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, Multimedia, Agriculture Communications, or a related field.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract and access to reliable transportation.
- Ability to attend occasional events outside regular office hours.

Assets:

- Experience creating content for social media platforms.
- Proficiency with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design tools.




- Photography and videography experience.
- Experience with analytics, email marketing, or digital advertising platforms.
- Familiarity with agriculture or interest in the agriculture industry.
