About Sunnyside Community
Sunnyside Community is a new supportive housing community designed to provide permanent, stable housing and comprehensive support to adults who have experienced chronic homelessness.
The community is built on the belief that housing is the foundation for health, dignity, connection and opportunity. Residents will have access to a safe home, on-site support, community programming and connections to health, social, employment and other community services.
We are building a team that understands that supportive housing is not simply about managing a building — it is about creating a community where people feel safe, respected, valued and empowered to move forward.
About the Role The Supportive Housing Manager provides day-to-day leadership for Sunnyside Community and ensures the effective delivery of high-quality, resident-centred supportive housing services.
Reporting directly to the Director of Housing – Saint John, the Supportive Housing Manager is responsible for translating organizational direction into effective day-to-day operations, leading the onsite team, maintaining a strong culture of safety and accountability, and ensuring residents receive consistent, respectful and responsive support.
This is a hands-on leadership position for an experienced professional who can balance people, operations, relationships, safety and accountability. The successful candidates will work closely with the Director of Housing, internal teams, residents and community partners to ensure Sunnyside operates as a safe, welcoming and well-coordinated community.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Operations
- Provide day-to-day operational leadership for Sunnyside Community.
- Work closely with the Director of Housing – Saint John to implement organizational priorities, policies and service standards.
- Ensure the community operates safely, effectively and consistently across all shifts.
- Establish and maintain clear operational systems, procedures and standards.
- Oversee implementation of supportive housing practices grounded in Housing First, trauma-informed care, harm reduction and person-centred approaches.
- Monitor day-to-day service delivery and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure appropriate response to emergencies, critical incidents and complex situations.
- Maintain strong communication and continuity across shifts and teams.
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Recruit, onboard, coach and support onsite staff.
- Provide direct supervision to Site Supervisors and other designated staff.
- Establish clear expectations, accountability and performance standards.
- Support staff development through coaching, training, feedback and reflective practice.
- Foster a healthy,
cooperative and respectful workplace culture.
- Ensure appropriate staffing coverage and operational continuity.
- Address performance, conduct and workplace concerns in collaboration with the Director of Housing and organizational leadership.
Resident Support & Housing Stability
- Ensure residents receive respectful, consistent and responsive support.
- Promote resident choice, autonomy, dignity and self-determination.
- Support staff in responding to complex resident needs and challenging situations.
- Ensure appropriate coordination of resident support plans, referrals and community services.
- Work collaboratively with residents, service providers and community partners.
- Promote opportunities for resident leadership, participation and community connection.
Safety, Risk & Incident Management
- Maintain a strong culture of safety throughout the community.
- Ensure staff understand and follow safety protocols, policies and procedures.
- Oversee incident reporting, follow-up and corrective action.
- Escalate significant incidents, risks and operational concerns to the Director of Housing in a timely manner.
- Identify emerging risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Ensure confidentiality, privacy and professional boundaries are maintained.
Partnerships & Community Collaboration
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with health, social service, housing, employment, justice and community organizations.
- Represent Sunnyside professionally within the broader Saint John community.
- Coordinate services and partnerships that support resident wellbeing and housing stability.
- Participate in community planning, case coordination and stakeholder meetings as required.
- Build a collaborative service network around residents and the Sunnyside community.
Administration, Reporting & Accountability
- Maintain accurate and timely operational and program documentation.
- Monitor key performance indicators, service outcomes and operational trends.
- Provide regular operational updates and reports to the Director of Housing.
- Prepare reports, summaries and other documentation for organizational leadership and funders as required.
- Support responsible management of program resources and operating budgets.
- Ensure compliance with organizational policies, funding requirements and applicable legislation.
- Participate in program evaluation, quality improvement and strategic planning.

- Strong leadership and people-management skills.
- Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, housing instability, poverty, mental health challenges, substance use or other complex barriers.
- Understanding of Housing First and/or supportive housing principles.
- Strong crisis intervention,
conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Strong organizational and administrative skills.
- Ability to make sound decisions in complex and sometimes unpredictable circumstances.
- Ability to build effective relationships with residents, staff, partners and community stakeholders.
- Commitment to harm reduction, trauma-informed practice, dignity and participant choice.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries while building authentic relationships.
Qualifications
Required
- Post-secondary education in social work, human services, community development, psychology, healthcare, business administration or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
- Minimum 3 years of progressive experience in a leadership, supervisory or program-management role.
- Experience working with vulnerable or marginalized populations.
- Experience supervising or leading staff teams of 10+ people.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification, or willingness to obtain prior to start date.
- Successful completion of required background screening.
- Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation.
Assets
- BSW, MSW or other relevant professional designation.
- Experience in supportive housing or Housing First.
- Experience leading a 24/7 residential, shelter, supportive housing, health or social-service program.
- Training in trauma-informed practice, harm reduction, de-escalation or mental health.
- Experience with case management or coordinated care.
- Experience developing policies, procedures, training or quality-improvement systems.

Schedule & Compensation Schedule: Full-time leadership position supporting a 24/7 supportive housing community. The successful candidate must be comfortable working a flexible schedule and being available to respond to operational needs, including days, evenings, weekends or urgent situations.
Hours: 40 hours per week
Compensation: $31.00 per hour
