Queen Margaret’s School (QMS) is seeking a reliable, experienced, and team-oriented Cook to join our Food Services team on a temporary, part-time basis.

This position is providing coverage for an employee on leave. The leave is expected to be extended, and there is currently no confirmed end date. The successful candidate should therefore be comfortable with a temporary assignment that may continue for a significant period of time.

About the Role

As a Cook at QMS, you will help prepare and serve nutritious, appealing meals for students and staff while supporting the safe, efficient, and welcoming operation of our kitchen and dining services.

Working alongside other members of the Food Services team, you will contribute to meal preparation, food safety, cleanliness, and the day-to-day needs of a busy school kitchen.

Key Responsibilities

- Prepare and cook nutritious, high-quality meals according to established menus and recipes
- Assist with food preparation for regular meal service, special events, and other school activities
- Ensure food is prepared, handled, stored, and served in accordance with food safety standards
- Support dietary requirements and food allergy protocols as directed
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen and work area
- Assist with receiving, organizing, and storing food and kitchen supplies
- Monitor food quality, portioning, and presentation
- Help minimize food waste and use ingredients efficiently
- Work collaboratively with Food Services colleagues to ensure meals are prepared and served on schedule
- Assist with cleaning and other kitchen duties as needed
- Contribute to a positive, respectful, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and colleagues





What You Bring The ideal candidate will be dependable, flexible, and comfortable working in a busy kitchen environment. You take pride in your work, communicate well with others, and understand that great food service is about both the meals we prepare and the people we serve. Qualifications and attributes may include:
- Previous cooking or commercial kitchen experience
- FoodSafe certification, or willingness to obtain it
- Knowledge of safe food handling, sanitation, and kitchen procedures
- Ability to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities
- A positive, professional, and collaborative approach
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of kitchen work, including standing for extended periods and lifting kitchen supplies and equipment
- Experience in a school, institutional, catering, or high-volume food service environment is an asset
