We are currently seeking a talented individual to join the Aurora School Team.

This role includes teaching Humanities 8 and 9 online, supporting online Async High School Humanities (English First Peoples 11, Psychology 12, Foods 11/12) and in person Learning Assistance support to a number of students. The role also involves partnering with other team members to facilitate meaningful place-based programming.

Essential Qualifications

- Bachelor of Education or equivalent with coursework in English and Social Studies;
- Experience in teaching English and Social Studies in an alternative program – with specific ability to facilitate experiential progamming;
- Experience leveraging place-based, experiential, inquiry-based programming,
- Experience teaching in a virtual learning environment;
- Experience developing and delivering on-line content;
- Awareness of Yukon First Nation pedagogy and curriculum (skills and content).
- Knowledge of challenges facing students in small / remote settings;
- Experience in program design, curriculum adaptation, and differentiated teaching / learning would be an asset;
- Experience using live web and video conferencing tools to deliver real-time lessons to remote learners would be an asset;

Desired knowledge, skills, and suitability The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications, skills, and knowledge, but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture:

- Strong competency in a variety of current technologies and online strategies using both LMS and Non-LMS tools
- Ability to be flexible and deliver ‘student centered’ programming
- Knowledge and understanding of critical competencies of Grade 8 – 12 curricula.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills working with administrators and staff of other schools, consultants, and community agencies;
- Knowledge and sensitivity towards the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally diverse student population;
- Openness to flexible work hours;
- Ability to engage students through a variety of on-line methods is essential.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:




- Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
- Yukon Teacher Certification; learn about the certification process here
- Yukon First Nations 101 , to be completed at your first opportunity.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- This position involves both online instruction and in-person responseabilities.
- To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must be certified in another Canadian province/territory first.
- Successful applicants will be required to undergo a security/vulnerable sector check.
- Relocation may be available.
