Reporting to the 4R Depot Foreperson, the Waste Diversion Site Attendant is responsible for supporting the protected, orderly, and efficient operation of the City's waste diversion site by directing and controlling vehicle traffic and customer unloading activities, monitoring materials to ensure compliance with applicable by-laws, regulations, and departmental policies, and providing customer service and education on proper sorting and diversion practices. The position provides operational support to equipment operators and contractors, attends stewardship collection areas (including receiving, sorting, tracking, and safe handling of designated materials), and performs general site maintenance and housekeeping to maintain a clean, safe, and functional facility. Work is performed primarily outdoors and may include shiftwork in all weather conditions.

As the Waste Diversion Equipment Operator, you will:

- Control and coordinate vehicle movement at the 4R Winnipeg Depot to maintain safe, orderly, and efficient site operations.
- Receive, monitor, and manage materials at the 4R Winnipeg Depot, including stewardship and designated diversion streams to ensure materials are placed, handled, and recorded safely and in compliance with applicable by-laws, regulations, and departmental policies.
- Provide front-line customer service and waste diversion education to 4R Winnipeg Depot customers by explaining site procedures and material requirements to support safe, efficient unloading and improved diversion outcomes.
- Perform general site maintenance and housekeeping at the 4R Winnipeg Depot to support a safe, clean, and functional operating environment for customers, staff, and contractors.
- Provide day-to-day operational support to equipment operators and contractors to help maintain safe, efficient material handling and overall depot operations.





Your education and qualifications include:

- Grade 10, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Training or certification in workplace safety (e.g., WHMIS, First Aid, Traffic Control), an asset.
- Two (2) years' experience working in a waste management, recycling, and/or customer service environment.
- Experience dealing effectively with stressful and/or challenging customer interactions.
- Experience working independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience organizing and prioritizing tasks in a busy, public-facing work setting.
- Experience maintaining accurate records (e.g., customer/material tracking information).
- Experience operating a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Experience using a personal computer, including Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to communicate effectively with customers, contractors, and City staff verbally and in writing, including explaining site procedures and material requirements.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and adhere to established safe work procedures and site rules.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts, and the public, consistent with the City's Respectful Workplace expectations.
- Ability to interpret and apply traffic-related legislation and site traffic control procedures to direct vehicles safely and efficiently at the depot.




- Ability to learn and apply depot diversion procedures, including identifying acceptable/unacceptable materials and applying protected receiving, sorting, and handling practices for designated diversion and stewardship materials (e.g., used oil, household hazardous waste, and electronic waste).

Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work (e.g., working around vehicle traffic, outdoor conditions, and handling potentially hazardous materials) and the ability to work in accordance with required safety procedures.

- Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position including the ability to lift weight up to 50 pounds, work outside for extended periods often under unfavorable weather conditions as required by work assignments, and the ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods and over uneven terrain for extended periods.
