Wage Range: $41.15 - $58.98 per hour (start rate is non-negotiable and in accordance with collective agreement requirements)

Hours: 0.5 FTE (Minimum 2-3 shifts per week – with options to pick up more based on unit needs)

Shifts: 12 Hour Shifts (Must be available to work Days/Nights/Weekends/Stat Holidays)

Job Summary This 28-bed Inpatient Cardiology Unit serves adult cardiology patients who require primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary levels of assessment, diagnosis and intervention of their cardiac condition. The unit is structured to encompass five services for our cardiology population including general cardiology, electrophysiology, adult congenital populations, heart failure and consults. Staff Nurses develop skills in arrhythmia interpretation, vasoactive medication management and telemetry monitoring.

The Majority Of Patients Have Diagnoses Of

Acute coronary syndrome

Cardiomyopathy

Heart failure

Patients with Dysrhythmias

Congenital heart defects

Continuous Telemetry Monitoring

Complex Cardiac Diagnosis

Duties

Applying knowledge of nursing science, theory, skill and critical decision making in the provision of compassionate, collaborative and competent care in accordance with the UHN Professional Practice Model for Nursing and the mission and vision of nursing at the UHN

Ensuring practice is consistent with professional standards and the ethical framework as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario and the UHN policy and procedure.

Qualifications

Current Registration as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario

Basic Cardiac Life Support (B.C.L.S.) certification

Minimum one (1) year Cardiac experience preferred

Coronary Care 1 Nursing Certificate will be considered an asset

Experience with cardiac monitoring including telemetry, pacemaker management and arrhythmias identification and interpretation will be considered an asset.

Demonstrated knowledge of high-alert medication commonly used in cardiology

Demonstrated comprehensive physical assessment skills with focus on the assessment of the cardiovascular system

Excellent interpersonal and professional communication skills with the team, colleagues, patients and families

Must be flexible and possess the ability to work effectively and efficiently within a variety of patient care teams

Excellent organizational, time management, and prioritization skills





Excellent conflict resolution and de-escalation skillsExperience with EPIC Hyperspace System

Demonstrated commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and evidence-informed practice

Knowledge of infection prevention and control practices

Demonstrated ability to provide patient and family education related to cardiac conditions, medication, lifestyle modifications, and discharge planning

Experience managing unstable and complex cardiac patients will be considered an asset

Demonstrated competence in emergency response and clinical deterioration management

Demonstrated participation in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, research, evidence-informed practice, or qualified practice activities will be considered an asset
