Job Summary and Qualifications: The Ambulatory Mental Health RN will be a member of the interprofessional team providing assessment, care, and treatment in Psychiatry. In collaboration with other team members, the nurse will provide psychosocial support and counselling through regular, patient centred follow up. In addition they role may include assisting neuromodulation team with assessment, coordination and application of various treatment in the clinics. This includes application of energy for rTMS, assisting with application and recovery of ECT, administers and assess effectiveness of treatments and medication. Provides quality follow up education and counselling to clients between and during treatments, collects and submits required monthly statistical data ensuring accuracy. Functions within an interdisciplinary team assisting with conducting mental status evaluations, collects collateral information, provides follow up counselling, and facilitates referrals and sourcing of outpatient and community resources. Practices in accordance with Sunny brook's Patient Focused Care philosophy.

Qualifications/Skills

Current College of Nurses of Ontario registration required

Current B.C.L.S. Certificate required

Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required

Non-violent Crisis Intervention certification required

Identify appropriate resources to patient needs taking into consideration severity of illness, culture, language, reading level and health literacy

Taking into account each patient’s values, preferences and circumstances,



support the development of patient-centred goals

Implement interventions/ treatment plans with patients and the multi-disciplinary team for the purpose of facilitating changes in behavior, attitudes and feelings.

Experience with ambulatory psychiatric nursing, including ECT,rTMS, Es-Ketamine administration and medication clinic.

Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing Certification preferred

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to establish therapeutic alliance with patients with various mental health diagnoses

Ability to conduct a nursing mental status evaluation

Experience assessing patients with severe mental illness, and safety assessments

Comprehensive knowledge of psychotropic drugs

Comprehensive knowledge of community resources for those affected by mental illness

Demonstrated understanding of and ability to apply principles of CBT, DBT and solution focused therapies in day to day practice.

Ability to problem solve, prioritize, be flexible and manage time effectively required

Ability to work effectively both autonomously and within an inter-professional team workplace

Trained and Certified with application of energy via the Brainsway and Magstim machines, and is trained in the administration of Es-Ketamine.

Ability and wiliness to be flexible in a fast pace clinical environment

Demonstrate responsiveness to patient needs within scope of practice and professional boundaries
