Position: TERM Youth Support Worker (2026 - 2027)

Location: HSD Schools
Hours: 6.0 hours per day
Salary: $30.74 per hour

Specifically, the candidate will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
To support one or two students in classrooms and flexible programs at HSD Schools
To implement and supervise the educational programming of student(s)
To provide guidance, mentoring, and support in school
To work cooperatively under the supervision of the program teaching staff
To assist, if needed, driving students to and from school with personal vehicle
Qualifications:
Child and Youth Care Diploma; an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
may be considered
Minimum two years’ experience working with adolescents who struggle with emotional,
behavioural difficulties, or mental health challenges is preferred
Preferably experience and knowledge working with children with autism is preferred
Relevant experience working with at‑risk youth and youth in the care of child welfare agencies




Strong understanding of programming in a school environment
Competency in positive student behaviour management
Effective communication skills and ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary collaborative team
Working Effectively with Violent and Aggressive States (WEVAS) and/or Non-Violent Crisis
Intervention (NVCI) training would be an asset
Demonstrated ability to establish positive relationships with children/youth
Robust judgement and problem-solving skills with the ability to handle difficult and/or sensitive
situations with tact and diplomacy
Ability, emotional and physical stamina to work with students with complex, emotional, and
Ability to maintain discretion regarding sensitive and confidential information
Vehicle required with valid driver’s license and vehicle registration
Must have a current Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check TO BE ABLE TO START
