‘Na̱mg̱is First Nation is located in the idyllic setting of Cormorant Island which is located northeast of Vancouver Island in the community of Alert Bay. We are seeking a Community Health Nurse (RN) to join our health care team, which includes the ‘Namgis Health Centre staff and Cormorant Island Hospital staff. The primary responsibilities of the Community Health Nurse are to provide disease prevention and health promotion support and activities to the community through individual and group clinics. The Community Health Nurse will implement and evaluate community-based services and provide appropriate resources and care to clients in accordance with accepted standards of care.
Job Responsibilities:
Facilitating disease prevention education activities through a variety of teaching methods (support groups, presentations, organized event)
Liaising with interdisciplinary health care members within the community to promote awareness of disease prevention and management of complications
Assisting with planning, scheduling, implementing, and evaluating nursing programs and services
Maintaining health records, which may include computerized data, required by current CRNBC (BCCNM) practice standards
Provides health care services through planned home visits, clinics, and education workshops to all ages




Mandated CDC Management in accordance with current standards
Provision of Family Health program/services
Other related duties as required. Other related duties as require, including but not limited to: attendance at weekly Accreditation meetings, participation in the development of policies and procedures for the Health Centre, maintaining a working knowledge of the Health Centers Strategic Plan, and maintaining current skills and knowledge in the Health Centers Emergency Preparedness Plan.

Job Qualifications:
University Degree in Nursing
Communicable Disease Control Certificate
Current Practicing License with the College of Registered Nurses of BC (BC College of Nurses & Midwives)
Valid BC driver’s license and personal vehicle for business purposes
Satisfactory criminal record check and vulnerable sector search results
Intermediate verbal and written communication skills
The ability to work with and provide services to culturally diverse people in a respectful and responsive manner
The ability to respond to community events of an urgent nature from time to time
Flexibility to meet the needs of a diverse group of people
