At ARTEMIS HURON, we use a gender based analysis (GBA+), trauma and violence informed framework to deliver prevention, education and crisis support services to women and their families who have been impacted by gender based violence (GBV) in rural Huron County. Our services include a 24-hour helpline and emergency shelter, risk assessment and safety planning, advocacy, system navigation, individual and group healing opportunities, and community development.

We are seeking a Child and Youth Advocate to join our team. This is a full time, continuing, role.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Manager of Programs, the Child and Youth Advocate is responsible for providing therapeutic counselling and support, creating a safe and welcoming environment for children, youth and their families who have been impacted by gender-based violence (GBV).

Your duties and responsibilities will include:

1. Provides trauma and violence-informed therapeutic counselling and support to children, youth, and caregivers impacted by gender-based violence (GBV). Conducts risk assessments, develops safety plans, facilitates referrals, and delivers education and support that promotes emotional wellbeing, resilience, and healthy family relationships.
2. Develops, facilitates, and evaluates evidence-based group programming for children, youth, and caregivers affected by GBV. Ensures programming is trauma-informed, grounded in GBA+, and aligned with organizational values and best practices.
3. Advocates for children, youth, and caregivers impacted by GBV while fostering strong partnerships with community agencies and service providers. Provides education, consultation, and leadership within the community,



contributing to service enhancement, collaborative initiatives, and organizational support.
4. Coordinates client intakes, maintains accurate and timely client documentation, and ensures compliance with organizational policies and standards. Tracks service delivery, prepares required reports, and maintains confidential client records to support effective program operations.

**A detailed role and responsibility document will be given to candidates offered an interview.

Location The Child and Youth Advocate works in various environments including schools, Emergency Shelter and Second Stage Programs locations.

Hours The Child and Youth Advocate works a standard work week (average 35 hours a week) and may be required to work variable evening and weekend hours as required to accommodate program needs.

What you Bring to the Role

- Demonstrates a strong understanding of GBA+, trauma and violence informed approaches and practices.
- Advocacy skills and effective child/women-centered practice delivery
- Sound understanding of the Family and Child Services Act and other relevant legislation
- Excellent conflict resolution skills; ability to facilitate difficult conversations when required
- Demonstrated skills in women’s advocacy,



case planning and effective child/women-centered practice and service delivery.
- Outstanding verbal and written communications, relationship building, listening and assessment skills.
- Proficiency in use of computer office technology and applications
- Demonstrated organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team with minimal supervision

Qualifications

- Diploma in Child and Youth Worker or Social Service Worker, or an equivalent post-secondary education and experience.
- Degree in Social Work would be considered an asset.
- Minimum 3 years social services experience including direct service experience providing individual counselling is required. Preference will be given to experience obtained working with children and/or youth, with individuals who have experienced gender-based violence, or experience obtained in a residential setting.
- Clear current Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC); CPR, First Aid (ASIST, CPI an asset)
- Valid driver’s license; access to a reliable vehicle and proof of adequate insurance ($2 million); willingness to facilitate transportation to appointments/shelter transfer, etc. as deemed necessary/appropriate to care.
- Valid CPR Level C, First Aid
- Satisfactory driver’s abstract
- Fluency in other languages an asset
