True North Society - Strathmore, Alberta
Established in 1993, True North Society has spent more than 30 years walking alongside individuals and families affected by family violence. From our home in Strathmore, Alberta, we offer emergency shelter, community outreach, early intervention, public education, and family support, all in service of a future where our community is free of violence, and every person is empowered to find safety and independence.
In our most recent year, we served over 5,000 individuals across all programs and received nearly 2,000 calls to our crisis line. We know that leaving an emergency shelter is only the beginning, and that without safe and affordable housing, too many survivors are forced to choose between returning to dangerous situations or leaving the communities they call home.
That is what drives what comes next. True North is building Finding Your True North, a 36-unit affordable housing community designed specifically for survivors of violence in Strathmore and the surrounding region, offering extended housing alongside comprehensive wrap-around supports.
