Position Details
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Salary Range: $43,000 CAD per year
Location: Remote in Canada

Role Overview The Editorial Assistant plays a key role in supporting the editorial team in the development and delivery of content for our print clients. Reporting to the Features Editor, this position focuses on writing entertainment and TV listings content, processing and preparing photos for our publications, and supporting the team's weekly Sports coverage and feature writing.
The Editorial
Assistant will also assist with content packaging when the Features Editor is away, with the opportunity to take on weekly photo selection and support the team's expansion into international content as the role develops.
Organizational Relationship
Directly accountable to the Features Editor for carrying out all responsibilities as assigned within the Editorial team.
Role Details
- Write entertainment and TV listings content for our print publications.
- Process photos required for our print publications, including preparing photo cutouts.
- Support weekly photo selection, with the opportunity to take on this responsibility independently over time.
- Share responsibility for the weekly Sports story with the Sports writer, covering full Sports writing duties during their absence.
- Assist with writing feature content and additional TV listings as needed.
- Assist with packaging content in the Features Editor's absence.
- Support the team's expansion into international content, including writing styles and colloquialisms, as that initiative develops.
- Assist in editing and proofreading content to meet internal style guides and editorial standards as needed.
- Research entertainment topics, TV lineups, and trends to support article development.
- Serve as backup support for the editorial team during high-volume periods or absences.
- Maintain the editorial database to ensure that content is appropriately flagged.
- Perform other editorial or administrative duties as required by the Features Editor.
Key Measurements Content & Editorial Quality
- Write high-quality, accurate, and engaging TV listings, entertainment, and feature content, meeting set editorial standards.
- Meet weekly and monthly content submission deadlines with minimal revisions required.
- Maintain consistent tone, style, and voice aligned with brand and client expectations.
- Support proofreading and editing efforts with an accuracy rate of 95% or higher.
Workflow & Production Efficiency
- Process and prepare photos (including cutouts) for our print publications on schedule, with no missed deadlines.
- Reliably cover the weekly Sports story alongside the Sports writer, including full coverage during their absences.
- Support the Features Editor in tracking editorial workflows and calendars with no missed milestones.
- Participate in daily/weekly editorial meetings and contribute to planning discussions.
Collaboration & Communication
- Work effectively and collaboratively with production and pagination teams to ensure smooth transitions from editorial to print layout.
- Maintain strong communication with internal team members and external partners (e.g., freelance writers, photo suppliers) as needed.
- Demonstrate responsiveness and reliability in cross-functional teamwork and assignments.
Initiative & Adaptability
- Proactively suggest article ideas, content improvements, or efficiencies in editorial processes.
- Step into backup roles — including photo selection, Sports writing, and content packaging — as needed without disrupting workflow.
- Quickly adapt to shifting priorities or content deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Support Functions & Administration
- Maintain up-to-date records of content schedules, file deliveries, and asset inventories.
- Ensure all content and images meet copyright and usage standards.
- Assist in compiling editorial reports and post-delivery summaries as requested.
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Writing and editing experience, gained through education, work experience, or both.
- Robust interest in TV, entertainment, and pop culture, with up-to-date knowledge of current television and streaming programming.
- Some experience with photo editing tools, particularly Adobe Photoshop.
- Interest in sports, and/or willingness to learn sports writing.
- Knowledge of international writing styles and colloquialisms an asset.
- Exceptional organizational and time-management abilities.
- Comfortable working with publishing tools and content management systems.
- Team-oriented with great communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
Education And Experience
- Degree in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field.
- 1–2 years of editorial or publishing experience preferred (internships considered).
- Practical experience with Photoshop required (e.g., through coursework, freelance work, or personal projects); familiarity with InDesign or other publishing software an asset.
