Position Responsibilities

Performs a variety of duties required for the daily operation and delivery of events at Montrose Cultural Centre (MCC), including, but not limited to, general maintenance, cleaning and repair duties, set-up/take down of tables, chairs, stage risers, pipe and drape and audio-visual systems; and driving to acquire materials and supplies, and performing safety-related tasks. Shift work and shift rotations are required in this role.

Perform a variety of custodial work including cleaning and garbage pick-up

Set-up/take down of tables, chairs, stage risers, pipe and drape and audio-visual system

Perform minor maintenance such as tightening bolts, oiling hinges, gluing surfaces, table repairs

Perform customer service duties such as answering questions and providing information

Liaise and act as point of contact with other City of Grande Prairie Departments, various contractors and service providers

Provide ongoing guest and client service to all users of a multi-purpose facility, including duties required for delivery of multiple events such as people, resources and equipment required for quick turnaround on events.

Operate and maintain equipment required for performance of duties such as floor cleaners, ride‑on tractors, aerial lift, sweepers, pressure washers, snow blowers





Act as a technical liaison and ensure requirements are met for events and clients of MCC such as arranging pick‑ups/deliveries and receiving deliveries; adjusting lighting controls, facility preparation, event change‑outs, take‑downs, opening hall at completion of events

Work with MCC tenants regarding building maintenance requests (Library, Kiosk, Art Gallery)

Schedule and ensure, if required, supervision is available for contractor work

Monitor building safety and security

Conduct OH&S; building inspections, generate reports, designate tasks to others on supervisor’s direction and follow up on completion of tasks

Snow shoveling, clearing and salting

Pressure washing concourse and other areas; vandalism removal

Schedule and oversee Fire Drills

Schedule and facilitate annual fire inspection

Update and maintain the health and safety Red Binder

Qualifications

High School graduation or equivalent

Minimum two years’ experience and upkeep of a major multi‑purpose facility utilized by diverse patron groups

Minimum two years’ experience with event set‑ups/take‑downs

Initiative and time management skills required to organize your own work

Self‑starting attitude with an exceptional service approach

Proven ability to work as part of a team





Ability to communicate tactfully and concisely, verbally and in writing

Organized and able to monitor and ensure building security and customer safety

Performs repeated heavy physical demands including but not limited to long periods of standing, lifting and shifting, and climbing stairs

Basic computer skills and knowledge

Certification in First Aid and WHMIS

Experience and ability to deal effectively with vulnerable and street‑engaged populations.

Working knowledge and experience with Health and Safety procedures; and the ability to develop and update Safe Work Procedures

Working knowledge and experience performing and leading Health and Safety building inspections

Ability to work shift work

Ability to operate various pieces of equipment used in cleaning an asset

Ability to work at heights an asset

Building Maintenance Course as an asset

Vulnerable Sector Check

Valid Class 5 Driver’s License

Hours
The standard workweek consists of an average of 40 hours, with the specific schedule being determined by the immediate supervisor.

Compensation
Starting salary $33.84 per hour as per the CUPE Collective Agreement.
