JOB DESCRIPTION: TRANSPORTATION – CERTIFIED MECHANIC
Location: Merritt School Board Office
SUMMARY
Reports to Operations Manager, provides mechanical services, maintains and repairs buses, vehicles and grounds equipment.

POSTING DETAILS

Position – Certified Mechanic

Start Date – As soon as possible

Employment – Full-time, continuing position (37.5hrs/week) (12 months per year)

Hours – Monday to Friday (7:00am to 3:00pm)

Salary - $42.75, plus extended medical benefits, vacation entitlement and pension plan.

DUTIES

Schedules and maintains and repairs all buses, vehicles, and grounds equipment.

Communicates with bus drivers regarding bus repairs and maintenance.

Maintains accurate records.

Maintains preventive maintenance program according to Ministry of Transportation requirements.

Inspects and makes recommendations for the purchase or disposal of District vehicles and equipment.

Orders parts, equipment, tools and supplies.

Road test vehicles.

Operates tools and equipment of the trade.

Responds to emergency situations as requested.

Preforms other assigned comparable duties which are within the scope of knowledge, skills and abilities required by this class specification.

QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of Grade 12.

Valid Class 2, B.C. Driver's License with Air Brakes endorsement or the ability to obtain.

Must have Interprovincial Heavy-Duty Technician Trade Certification.





Must have a Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certification.

Ability to perform a variety of skilled tasks in the maintenance of district vehicles and equipment.

Ability to communicate effectively using courtesy and tact in the explanation and exchange of information.

Ability to determine, judge and select appropriate course of action within limits of established methods and procedures.

Physical ability to preform the required duties; able to carry, lift, push and pull awkward or large heavy objects up to 50lbs. or more.

Flexible and adaptable to diverse working conditions. Able to work with minimum supervision, alone and in a team environment.

Self-motivated.

Basic computer skills and ability to use email, electronic work order system and online submission of CVIP reports.

Knowledge and able to use and understand computerized diagnostic equipment.

Acceptable Driver's abstract.

Minimum of four years (5) of experience as mechanic with specific background in school buses, medium and heavy-duty trucks.

Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate and familiarity with Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) safety procedures.
