What the position entails

GeoVerra’s Production GIS team turns survey, project, client, and authoritative spatial data into clear, accurate mapping products used to plan work, support field operations, and communicate project information. This role is focused on hands-on GIS production: preparing client maps in ArcGIS Pro, organizing project data, researching and validating source information, and completing thorough self-checks before deliverables move to final review.

You will work within established templates, standards, checklists, and file-management practices while collaborating with GIS coordinators, project managers, CAD teams, field staff, and other technical specialists. You will also help improve the shared GIS environment by identifying data issues and documenting repeatable workflows.

While Alberta-based candidates are preferred, we welcome applications from qualified candidates across Canada. This position can be performed remotely from a home office; however, candidates must be willing to travel to a GeoVerra office when required for team collaboration, training, meetings, team-building activities, and other business needs.

What you will do

- Produce accurate, clear, client-ready maps and PDF deliverables in ArcGIS Pro using approved corporate and client templates.

- Gather, organize, research, and interpret project, survey, land, environmental, infrastructure, imagery, and other spatial data required for each assignment.

- Prepare and maintain project geodatabases, feature classes, shapefiles, ArcGIS Pro projects, layouts, and supporting files using established folder structures and naming conventions.

- Integrate data from CAD drawings, survey files, spreadsheets, imagery, web services, and enterprise GIS layers into production mapping workflows.

- Confirm coordinate systems, transformations, spatial alignment, geometry, attributes, symbology, labels, legends, title blocks, scales, grids, and revision information.

- Compare GIS outputs with approved CAD or engineering plans and source documents to confirm mapped features, dimensions, names, and project details are complete and consistent.

- Perform documented self-checks and QA/QC before submitting work for final review; correct identified issues and record required checking information.

- Follow client specifications, departmental standards, checklists, and workflow procedures. Escalate unclear,



unusual, or conflicting instructions before proceeding.

- Plan work against scope, priorities, and time allocations; communicate early when inputs are missing or timelines may be affected.

- Coordinate with GIS, CAD, project, and field teams to clarify requirements, resolve data questions, and support efficient field-to-office delivery.

- Publish, update, or support GIS data and map content in GeoVerra’s enterprise GIS environment, including GV View and the Data Portal, as assigned.

- Respond to routine GIS mapping, data, and imagery questions and help troubleshoot production issues through the team’s support processes.

- Contribute to templates, standards, checklists, how-to guides, and workflow improvements by documenting reliable methods and sharing lessons learned.

- Protect confidential and client information and follow data security, licensing, attribution, retention, and approved-storage requirements.

- Maintain a safe, respectful, and collaborative work environment.

What you will bring

- Diploma or degree in GIS, geomatics, geography, engineering technology, environmental technology, or a related discipline; equivalent education and directly related experience may be considered.

- Practical experience producing maps and managing spatial data in ArcGIS Pro or comparable desktop GIS software is required.

- Understanding of coordinate systems, projections, transformations, vector and raster data, geodatabases, spatial relationships, cartography, and map layout principles.

- Ability to interpret CAD or engineering plans and integrate CAD-derived information into GIS workflows. AutoCAD or Civil 3D experience is an asset.

- Ability to organize project files carefully, follow detailed standards, and maintain clear records of sources, assumptions, revisions, and checks.

- Solid attention to detail and the judgment to question incomplete, inconsistent, or unclear information rather than make unsupported assumptions.

- Ability to manage multiple assignments,



work within defined budgets and timelines, and communicate scope or priority changes promptly.

- Clear written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with project managers, field staff, CAD technicians, GIS colleagues, and other stakeholders.

- Proficiency with Microsoft 365. Experience with FME, enterprise geodatabases, ArcGIS Enterprise, web GIS, GPS or field data, imagery, land information, Python, or Arcade is an asset.
