Senior Mechanical Design Specialist Overview We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Design Specialist with expert-level proficiency in 3D CAD, GD&T;, engineering standards, and fabrication practices .

This role will serve as a senior technical authority for the review, validation, and release of 2D fabrication and installation drawings , ensuring all design outputs meet technical standards, project requirements, constructability expectations, and applicable industry codes.

Working closely with Engineering, Design, Manufacturing, and Installation teams, the successful candidate will help strengthen drawing quality and technical consistency while mentoring Designers and supporting complex design projects.

Key Responsibilities Drawing Review & Technical Validation Review and validate 3D CAD models and 2D engineering, fabrication, and installation drawings for accuracy, completeness, and constructability.

Verify the correct application of GD&T;, tolerances, materials, fasteners, and assembly details .

Ensure drawings comply with applicable industry codes and standards, including SMACNA, ANSI, ASME, ASTM, and CSA .

Identify technical discrepancies and provide clear feedback and direction to Designers and Engineers.

Approve drawings for release or coordinate revisions before formal issuance.

Act as a senior technical resource for complex or non-standard design challenges.

Drawing Standards & Documentation Maintain and improve drawing standards, modeling conventions, templates, and documentation practices.

Ensure consistency across fabrication, installation, and as-built drawings.





Confirm released documentation accurately reflects approved design intent and applicable field modifications.

Mentorship & Technical Quality Mentor Designers in advanced CAD, GD&T;, and fabrication detailing practices.

Provide technical feedback to improve individual and team capabilities.

Support the development of consistent design and detailing processes.

Project Support Work with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Installation teams to ensure designs align with fabrication and field requirements.

Support project schedules by completing drawing reviews and approvals within required timelines.

Identify and escalate technical, quality, or schedule risks when necessary.

Qualifications 810+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design/drafting within a fabrication, manufacturing, or engineered systems environment.

Expert proficiency in Autodesk Inventor or comparable advanced parametric CAD software.

Advanced, practical knowledge of GD&T; in a fabrication-driven environment.

Solid understanding of applicable industry codes and standards such as SMACNA, ANSI, ASME, ASTM, and CSA .

Extensive experience producing and reviewing detailed 3D models and 2D fabrication drawings .

Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, fastening methods, and assembly requirements.

Experience providing technical direction or mentorship to other Designers/Drafters.

Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting, or a related technical discipline .

Engineering degree considered an asset.

Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify technical risks and constructability issues early.

Excellent communication, organization, and technical problem-solving skills.
