**Job Title: Aircraft Mechanic – M1**
**Job Description**
This role focuses on heavy maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of M1 category light aircraft, including Turbo Commanders, Grand Caravans, Air Tractors, and other lighter fleets.

You read and interpret complex technical manuals, perform scheduled labour checks, and ensure aircraft are safe, compliant, and ready to operate.

During the fire season, you support aircraft in the field across multiple regions, helping keep fleets mission-ready in demanding environments.
**Responsibilities**
Perform heavy maintenance, repair, and inspection on M1 category light aircraft such as Turbo Commanders, Grand Caravans, Air Tractors, and other similar fleets.

Carry out 1500/2000 labour checks and related scheduled maintenance, ensuring all repairs and checks meet regulatory and safety standards.

Read, interpret, and work from technical manuals that may not be straightforward, identifying where to find required information and applying it accurately to maintenance tasks.

Conduct detailed inspections, including panel removal and reinstallation, and document findings and corrective actions clearly and accurately.

Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and basic avionics issues, diagnose root causes, and perform or coordinate appropriate repairs.

Support aircraft operations in the field during the fire season, ensuring aircraft remain serviceable while deployed to locations such as Northern Alberta, Yukon, Alaska, British Columbia, and occasionally other provinces.

Work closely with the lead hand or team lead, who allocates tasks and oversees work, to ensure aircraft are returned to service efficiently and safely.

Follow all safety procedures and best practices, recognizing unacceptable conditions and taking immediate action to correct or report them.

Collaborate with a team of mechanics and technicians to complete maintenance tasks, while also being able to work independently when required.

Research and verify maintenance procedures, parts, and service information using manuals and other technical resources.

Perform line maintenance as needed to keep aircraft operational between major checks.

Bring and use appropriate basic tooling to perform maintenance tasks effectively and safely.

Participate in basic safety training and ongoing safety initiatives, maintaining a strong safety mindset and adherence to company standards.

Adapt to changing schedules and field deployments, including working extended hours and supporting aircraft seven days a week when in the field.

Maintain clear communication with supervisors and team leads regarding aircraft status, issues identified, and work completed.
**Essential Skills**
Minimum 2 years of hands-on M1 aircraft maintenance experience.

Strong ability to read, understand, and apply complex aircraft maintenance manuals and technical documentation.

Proven experience performing heavy maintenance on light aircraft.

Solid troubleshooting skills in aircraft mechanical systems, with exposure to electrical and avionics repair.

Experience with aircraft maintenance repair and line maintenance on multiple aircraft types is highly valued, including Q400 exposure.

Comfort working on Turbo Commanders, Grand Caravans, Air Tractors, and similar light aircraft fleets.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team, taking direction from lead hands or team leads.

Consistently positive attitude and professional approach to work.

Strong safety awareness, with a clear understanding of what conditions are critical and not acceptable in an operational aircraft environment.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
Experience with TC 690 aircraft is an asset.





Experience with PT6 engines and modern lighter aircraft is an asset.

Heavy maintenance experience on helicopters is a strong plus.

One year or more of experience at a well-regarded maintenance organization, including helicopter outfits, is preferred.

No Aircraft Certification Authority (ACA) endorsement is required, but broad and solid experience across multiple aircraft types is beneficial.

Experience in repair, electrical work, and avionics repair is advantageous.

Willingness to be flexible and mouldable, open to learning and adapting to unique aircraft and field operations.

Good references for safety practices and adherence to safety standards are important.

**Work Environment**
You work within a team of approximately 18 people, collaborating with rotating team leads or lead hands who assign tasks and support the crew in keeping aircraft functioning.

The primary schedule is a day shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, with overtime available and occasional 10-hour shifts, especially for contractors.

Weekly hours typically range from 40 to 58.

During field deployments, you may work 7 days a week at 8 hours per day, for about 56 hours per week, with additional compensation elements such as away-from-base pay, flight pay, lodging, and government-rate per diem arrangements.

In British Columbia, lodging may be at your cost while per diem rates are higher.

You are expected to bring your own basic tooling to perform maintenance tasks.

The environment involves both hangar-based heavy maintenance and unique field work supporting aircraft engaged in fire-fighting operations across various regions, providing a dynamic, hands-on setting with a strong focus on safety and operational readiness.

Compensation includes differentiated rates for unlicensed and licensed mechanics, premiums for ACA endorsement on Q400 and occasional lead hand responsibilities, as well as a package that may include accommodation support, daily allowances, mileage reimbursement up to a specified limit, travel day pay, and flight cost reimbursement within defined caps.

**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $53.30 - $56.38/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
