**Job Title: Excavator Operator**
**Job Description**
We are seeking an experienced and reliable Excavator Operator to join a civil construction team focused on underground utility projects.

You will primarily operate excavators and other heavy equipment to install and maintain underground piping systems for water, sewer, and drainage infrastructure.

This position requires expert machine operating skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work safely and collaboratively on active construction sites.
**Responsibilities**
Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, and backhoes for excavation, grading, and site preparation.

Perform trenching for installation of underground utilities including water, sewer, and storm drainage systems.

Read and interpret site plans, blueprints, and grade stakes to ensure accurate excavation and pipe installation.

Prepare construction sites by clearing land, digging foundations, and leveling surfaces.

Coordinate with supervisors, engineers, and crew members to meet project timelines and specifications.

Load, move, and place materials efficiently to support ongoing construction operations.

Conduct routine equipment inspections and perform basic maintenance to ensure safe and reliable operation.

Follow all safety regulations, company policies, and environmental guidelines while on site.

Assist with pipe laying, backfilling, compaction, and final grading to ensure proper site finishing.

Identify and promptly report hazards, equipment issues, or unsafe conditions to maintain a safe work environment.

Work collaboratively with other equipment operators, laborers, and foremen to complete projects effectively.
**Essential Skills**
At least 5 years of experience as an Excavator Operator in civil construction.

Proven experience working with underground utilities, including water, sewer, and drainage systems.

Mainlining experience for underground piping and utility work.

Solid knowledge of trench safety, shoring, and excavation best practices.

Ability to read and interpret site plans, blueprints, and grade stakes.

Proficiency in operating excavators and other heavy equipment such as loaders and backhoes.

Valid driver's license.
**Additional Skills & Qualifications**
Civil construction experience across a variety of infrastructure projects.

Pipe laying experience, including installation, alignment, and backfilling.

General labor skills to support broader site activities as needed.

Familiarity with safety training such as fall protection, confined space awareness, and WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System).

**Work Environment**
Work takes place primarily across the Vancouver–Langley corridor and surrounding areas, on active outdoor construction sites in a variety of weather conditions.

The standard schedule is Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a minimum of 8 hours per day and a 30‑minute paid break.

The role involves frequent lifting and handling of heavy materials, often up to 50 pounds or more, and requires comfort working around heavy equipment and uneven terrain.

There is potential for overtime, weekend work, and early morning starts based on project needs, providing additional earning opportunities in a fast-paced, hands-on construction environment.

This is a Permanent position based out of Burnaby, BC.
**Pay and Benefits**
The pay range for this position is $72800.00 - $100000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
